I booked Leylands Farm as a treat for my wedding anniversary. I must say I was very disappointed.
I was shown around the accommodation and where our breakfast was provided by the host. We were told they would be having friends around that evening, then we were left to get on with our stay.
When we settled down to eat, we found the plated butter in the fridge was covered in a few hairs and bread crumbs from the last visitors. The unopened butter was out of date by over a month and the yoghurts that were provided for our breakfast were also past the use by date, as were some of the cereals. I was also disappointed by the cleanliness of the food preparation area. There was a build up of crumbs and dust behind the jars which I needed to clean before I started preparing our meal. The television cabinet and a few sides also had a layer of dust which had not appeared to be cleaned for while.
In the morning I was hoping to stay a short time longer to have a look around the 7 acre gardens, which seemed to be a big adversing point on all website and was one of the reasons why I choose it in the first place. However, even though I was emailed that check out would be by 11am, the host came in at around 10am and asked if we had had a good sleep. I was hoping for an invite to view the gardens but instead I loaded up the car and could see one of their private guests putting on the garden. After we loaded up, the only ones to see us away were the host's dogs. They were very welcoming and I felt they showed us more hospitality than the owners of Leylands Farm B&B. I am not sure if we would have been made to feel more welcome if we had hired a Jaguar rather than an old banger. Maybe it was because they were more interested in entertaining and making their friends feel welcome rather than their paying guests. It felt to me as if I was staying at a relatives house who did not really want me there.
This is the first time I have ever felt the need to complain about staying at a Bed and Breakfast or a Guest house and I have stayed in several each year. I really feel that It was not worth the cost of £75, considering the out of date food and the poor attention to cleanliness not to mention the hospitality or lack of it.

Oh dear, not the best break ever. A little more info on where the b&b is, how easy it is to get to etc would earn a higher rating :)
