The hotel, from the outside, looked like any other hotel, if not a bit bleak looking. The car park was NOT very well laid out, half of the spaces where against the wall so you could be blocked in, so it was a good job our friends parked behind us then we knew who the occupier was and they could let us out on checkout! Once inside I had to think to myself, is this the hotel or a pole dancing bar? It looked so seedy. I then had to navigate myself and a pram through a windy corridor, barely a metre wide, down 3 sets of small stairways just to reach reception. Once in our room a damp, foisty smell hit me. Other than that, it had everything we needed, they had helpfully rented us in a travelcot at no extra cost, and everything was clean, if not old fashioned. The bathroom smelt of urine which you HAD to get used too, but was clean and had fresh towels. The windowsill was also covered in mould and damp.
The restaurant and bar areas both had sets of steps to go up, and the corridors where thin with a small lift which we had to use. Not very child/OAP/Pushchair friendly.
Food, Staff and Entertainment
The only staff I really came across was the overbearing waiter, a miserable receptionist and the sleazy entertainment staff. The waiter hovered around us throughout all of the meal, cracking jokes and making people feel mildly uncomfortable. As we where a large party, he must have felt compelled to offer us in-meal entertainment. The food was OK, but it had been pre-prepared and left out to wait as the food fot to us within 5 seconds of us ordering it, and because of this, the meal lasted about 10 minutes start to finish and it felt like we had to hurry and leave so our table could be re-dressed for the next batch of guests.
The evening entertainment was very sleazy, 3 dancers who where barely dressed gyrating around the stage, then followed by a comedian who was nasty and commented on everyone who was nearby. He picked on a lady breastfeeding, which in my opinion is very rude and not tasteful, and made sexual comments to any woman who passed. In a family bar, its not really appropriate. I am not a prude, but was very OTT. The only saving grace was a singer who sang after these two acts who was actually quite good. It was advertised when booking that Friday night would be a karaoke, and this was partly the reason why we booked it as being a large party it may have been fun, so was dissapointed to learn the hotel had taken it off without a word to anyone. Plus point, the hotel had reserved our party a balcony so we could all sit together, but as this was upstairs, and there was around 10 babies present, it could have been better.
Overall....
The cost for 2 nights for myself, my partner and baby was £150.00. We had breakfast, and a 3 course evening meal included in this so was good value for money. However the negatives ruined our weekend for us, any establishment needs to keep upto date on furnishings, making sure all smells are eliminated and mould is removed. Its simple practice.
