Liberty's on the Square is an odd mixture of a nightclub/hotel/rabbit warren/saga venue. This is one hotel with an identity crisis. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone; it is marketed as a Saga hotel, yet in my opinion, is completely unsuitable for the elderly due to access issues and the seedy, inappropriate entertainment.
ENTERTAINMENT The inappropriate entertainment for the audience of 60+ers and young families was terrible. The entertainment (if you could call it that!) consisted of a very rude and not funny comedian (I am not a prude, but his jokes were not funny and it was obvious his idea of humour was to be as smutty and insulting as possible). He told what I found to be offensive jokes containing very vulgar language and picked on several people throughout his act making personal remarks about their appearance. I was lucky to escape such ridicule, however I felt dreadfully sorry for the individuals who were targeted. The next 'act' was a small group of dancers who were 3 poles short of a pole dancing act. How these acts were thought to have been suitable entertainment for this family/OAP hotel I will always wonder! Last on the bill for the evenings entertainment was a singer, who was the highlight of the holiday, he was entertaining and likable. '
ACCESS Passageways and many different unramped levels throughout the hotel would make wheelchair access impossible. Ramps are needed throughout the building and walkways need widening. To reach the reception we had to carry our pushchair up 6 steps, then to get from the reception we had to lift the pushchair down 3 steps then back up 3 steps before trying to turn the pram through a walkway 1m wide and at a 90 degree angle whilst opening one door and then another. Then to get to the restaurant the same route was taken plus several steps to reach the upper level where the restaurant was sited. Fine if you are able bodied and have no babies in pushchairs otherwise a complete no no.
RESTAURANT Vile meals, ready prepared and sat dished out under a hot plate to be presented within seconds of ordering awaited us at the hotel's restaurant. The food took me back to times of school dinners. As a group of families with 3month old babies we were tutted at on several occasions by the other customers, despite our babies being very well behaved and quiet. The staff however, were extremely attentive and made us feel very welcome.
ROOMS Our room was damp, and smelt musty. The decor was very dated and in need of tidying up. The bathroom was not the cleanest and was only used when necessary!! The bed was comfortable and we were given a large family room with a double bed and a single, they even provided a cot for our baby free of charge. The linen was clean and plenty of towels were provided.
I shall not be returning to this hotel.

Welcome to Ciao! I guess this is not a place I'd find much fun . . . This review would have been more interesting if you had explained why you were there, who the group you were with were, how you happened to choose this hotel in the first place; how long your visit was for; along with ease in checking in and out; noise levels; price ranges etc

Well at least the staff were good and attentive, even though everything else was rubbish. Welcome to Ciao. Rachael.
