Lincoln Green or Mouldy?

Yes I visited Lincoln. The best thing about it is not the city itself but the approach by road where the Cathedral looks absolutely magnificant standing as it does up high before your very eyes.
But when you get there is it any different. Since this was a day trip time was limited. So, to the cathedral itself. I do not know about you but I resent having to pay an entrance fee to go into a church. On the other if you do not you will not see this beautiful building from the inside. I must recommend it to you even if only for the stain glass windows. They really are superb. While you are there, if you are a member of English Heritage go and see the Bishop's House/castle. Not a lot left but there is a useful historical lesson inside the building.
What ever you do visit the Castle at your peril. What a dump. Half of the so called sights included in the brochure are not what they seem. The 'bath house' has dirty windows and is a storage room gor rusty seats. The 'magistrates court' is a tea room with no ambience whatsoever and would make British Rail look 5 star. The 'Crown Court' is a Crown Court but visitors are barred. The wonderful views from the battlements were nowhere to be seen.I was so furious I asked to see the manager and did so. His response was 'Sorry, we do do our best' Refund....Not on your Nelly.

I agree with your gripes, but I think in this case Lincoln does have to odd thing going for it. Having said this, there are other (many other) places I would visit first...
