Lille is situated in the north of France, and this is where I live, not really, but I live around Lille. This is a amazing town, but I wish there was more english each summer ;o).
Fist, it's really easy to come to Lille thanks to the ferries (that I took so many times!) and we have plenty of hotels there! I don't know if they are expensive or not because I don't need them!
Those years, the town has being changed, I mean it's getting more and more beautiful, with each saturday a concert or something like that on the major square [we call it Grand' place].
This town is so great! we are next to Paris, Beligium, Netherlands, Germany, and you guys: GB! it's not raining all the time as people can think or say!
Here are the pubs I prefer:
+ "La taverne de l'ecu", rue esquermoise [name of the street] here, they are really kind with us, you eat some specialities, and they do their own bear, with is really really good! It's not expensiv at all, for me and my girlfriend, last time I've paid less than 16£ for a whole meal!.
+ "Le rally", it's not a restaurant but tou can eat some meals not expensive at all, less than at McDonald! I know the owners as my school is next to them and as I often go there to take a coffe. rue Gambetta [street name], next to the subway (station "Repubilque - beaux arts" )
+ "Le balatum", this a a oub where most of people are skaters or rockers. You can listen to good rock, and postrock there, you can only take a drink there, but they give you a canddy with your coffe...really nice! This is a place where you meet good persons! 13 rue de la barre.
+ "le carré des halles" this is a bar-rock! sometimes some concerts, really small place anyway, but with friends, this is paradise, behind you you can see a great collection of CD, and ask whatever you want, fram rock to metal! cheap too! 3 rue des primeurs
That's all for my pubs, but you can visit Lille! There is the park, with a free zoo in it, I like to go there with my girl friend, because it smell good the grass and the flower there! There are some games in this park too, and a bar.
We also have a "mark and spencer", the one is going to close...I like the peanut butter, and won't be able to find it anymore!...Really good place for you not to fell far from GB!
Lille is also an historic town! there are a lot of vistis that you can do there!
Please excuse my mistakes, I am not english...

I lived in Lille for 18 months and really enjoyed this city. The old city is really pretty, load of shops and places of entertainment. I especially appreciated the fact that the people from the area I met loved their region and where really keen to help me to discover it.... Forget me, English is not my mother tongue either ;-)
