A City with a Beach

Advantages: Good touring base, plenty to do
Disadvantages: Busy town with heavy traffic

...about 4 to 5 hours. Limassol is on the south coast and is a more or less equal distance (about 40 miles) from each of these airports, a little under an hour by car from either. Most people seem to take package holidays here, inclusive of flight and accommodation. I could see why this is when I booked my flight from Bristol to Larnaka, as the cost of the return flights I looked at was often equal to or greater than the cost of a package. I already ...
...was told a taxi to Limassol would cost about £40 each way for up to 4 people from either Larnaka or Pafos airports and can be pre-booked from the UK online. Our hire car cost about £15 per day for a largish Toyota with air conditioning but it's possible to hire a small car for a week for very little more than the cost of a return airport taxi.

Disadvantages: There is no real focal point to Limassol itself

...only recognised by turkey itself. Limassol does owe a great deal to its volatile history, especially as it has thrived as a tourist destination since the now Turkish Famagusta, one of the most important tourist destinations in Cyprus before the divide, is no longer accessible to holiday makers. The town itself is 25km long and stretches back 4km from the shoreline. This leaves the town with no real centre. There is an old town which has many shops ...

We chose not to visit: the Sea Sponge Exhibition (situated in an old carob warehouse and displaying different types of sea sponge); the Time Elevator (a trip through Cyprus' history that costs CY£7 for adults and CY£5 for children); Limassol Castle (13th century castle standing on the ...

limassol

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: none

==introduction== limassol is an interesting place to visit. It is located in the republic of Cyprus and it is arguably the best coastal area in Europe. Well at least I think it is amongst them anyway. ==getting there== After a four hour air flight from one of London's Airport's to get to one of Cyprus Arrival lounges, getting to limassol is around thirty minutes to an hour travelling time via taxi or rented car. ==things to do== The coastal area ...
...beer. Getting around limassol is difficult if using public transport as there are a few Bus Routes that are difficult to find for tourists. Hiring a Mercedes Taxi is expensive as the cost of getting from one part of limassol to another costs around ten euros. So in terms of a day out where there are no trains or reliable Bus Services the best advice is to book accomodation in the tourist area and have all the facilities and amenities nearby. I also ...

Limassol

Advantages: Great base for visiting the tourist sites. Has a fantastic waterpark
Disadvantages: Not really a disadvantage but more like a city in parts than an actual tourist resort

Although I'd been through Limassol the last couple of times I visited Cyprus I'd never stayed there for a holiday. I have to be honest and say that it doesn't really compare with the beauty of Paphos or Protaras but I liked it anyway. Limassol (called Lemessos by the Cypriots) is the second largest town in Cyprus so, although there are a lot of nice bars, clubs and restaurants for the tourist it is principally a big, busy town with a large fishing ...

After that you go to the upper decks and are entertained by Anastassias, a singer who has appeared in the Eurovision Song Contest. He’s very good in a cheesy kind of way and looks a bit like Freddy Star but he really knows how to get the crowd going. Later on in the evening 2 Cypriot traditional dancers appear and get everybody up on the floor to have a ...

The Brit's choice

Advantages: Everyone speaks English
Disadvantages: Karaoke has just taken off!!

Limassol is both an area and a town in the south of Cyprus. The town of Limassol is an interesting mix of old Cypriot culture meeting modern Western desires. I realised this as I looked out from the balcony of the hotel only to be greeted by the famous golden arches of McDonald’s. This gave me a good indication of what to expect when going out for a meal each night. The hotel I stayed in was to the east of the town. There are three superb ...
...skirt!! The side of Limassol that I saw is receiving a lot of development at the moment. There are plenty of road works along the coastal road. This indicates that in years to come there will be more than just the three hotels side by side. Limassol is an ideal location to visit if you don’t want to get submerged in Cypriot culture. There is a good deal to remind you of home. In fact there is more than enough to remind you that Greek is the ...

Limassol, Cyprus. The Place to go.

Advantages: People are friendly, and helpful. Cheap when you get there.
Disadvantages: Expensive to get there. More than Greek Islands.

I loved Cyprus from the moment we stepped off of the aeroplane. About 12 years ago my family decided they wanted a last minute break. We had always been to France and Spain for our holidays but my parents fancied something different. They had heard about Cyprus and were lucky enough to book cheap last minute holiday for us all. We booked on the Saturday and went on the Wednesday. When we got there the apartments we were staying in (The Drakos) were lovely and clean and very spacious. The people went out of their way to help us with whatever we wanted. They speak very good English over there and drive on the left hand side of the road too. Great if you decide to hire a car. Limassol is mainly on one very long main road. With Apartments extra mainly on one side and the beach on the other. Lots of crossings though so not a problem ...

Crusader Beach Hotel in Limassol, Cyprus

Advantages: Beach front, great price, central location
Disadvantages: Dining area and gneral hotel facilities

! Not nice! The poolside bar is quite expensive compared to other bars in the areas (especially the Irish bar and bar next door). 4. Reception. Be prepared for a wait! I\'m sure that \'just a minute\' has a whole new meaning in Cyprus. Ok once you\'re used to it. Now the Good Stuff: 1. Beach Front location - and I really do mean that! Tilt your head over the bannister at the foot of the swimming pool and you drop into the sea! There\'s not much of a beach per say, but just to the right as you look out to sea is a nice little sheltered inlet with some dark sand. 2. Food on your doorstep. This hotel is literally in the heart of Limassol. As you come out of the hotel you have a huge range of restaurants to the right. Reasonably priced and many have a 2/3 course special. 3. Bars - again, all around you. One good one is next door to ...

Limassol Castle - Well Worth a Visit

Advantages: Cheap to visit, very atmospheric
Disadvantages: Only an hour's worth of stuff to see

The current Limassol Castle was structurally rebuilt by the Turks in the 19th Century. I visited the Castle in May 2009. Limassol, in case you?ve never heard of it, is in southern Cyprus and is the second largest city of the island. HOW OLD IS IT? The original castle was apparently built around the 13th century and it is said that Richard I the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre here and crowned her Queen of England in 1191 after refusing to marriage his childhood betrothed supposedly as she was seduced by his own father. Why do I mention this particular marriage took place at Limassol Castle? Maybe you can check out the address of the Castle at the end of my review to see if you can guess how important this marriage was considered... THE CASTLE/MUSEUM The Cyprus Medieval Museum is housed inside ...
