Limassol is both an area and a town in the south of Cyprus. The town of Limassol is an interesting mix of old Cypriot culture meeting modern Western desires. I realised this as I looked out from the balcony of the hotel only to be greeted by the famous golden arches of McDonald’s. This gave me a good indication of what to expect when going out for a meal each night.
The hotel I stayed in was to the east of the town. There are three superb hotels, The Amathus, The Mediterranean and The Four Seasons, side by side. Small supermarkets, bars and restaurants line the coastal road that links these hotels to the town. You could not walk more than 100 yards without being reminded that you had come to a British holiday destination. I had to pinch myself when I ended up watching Manchester United playing in the champion’s league while drinking a pint of Boddingtons!! Was I really on holiday in Cyprus? The bars are geared towards the British holidaymaker. In fact many of the bars are owned by British ex-pats who obviously decided to put their money where their mouth was after an entertaining holiday on the island many years ago. “Where do you come from?” I asked the bar-lady. “Originally from Leeds, but I’ve lived here for the past seven years.” came the reply. The same could be said for the taxi driver who took us from the airport to the hotel....except he wasn’t from Leeds and we never saw him in a mini skirt!!
The side of Limassol that I saw is receiving a lot of development at the moment. There are plenty of road works along the coastal road. This indicates that in years to come there will be more than just the three hotels side by side.
Limassol is an ideal location to visit if you don’t want to get submerged in Cypriot culture. There is a good deal to remind you of home. In fact there is more than enough to remind you that Greek is the second language on this strip of the island. There is a good range of restaurants to cater for all tastes. Greek, Mexican, English, French, seafood, meat, vegetarians. Whatever your palate savours, Limassol can cater for it.
Personally I would have preferred to see a little more of the Island and more of the real Cyprus. Yet I have to admit that it was nice to be so far away from home enjoying some of the finer sports Sky television has to offer and enjoying the cream of Manchester!!
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
I think your op is good, but I rated helpful as I have lived in Limassol and you have forgotten to mention some beautiful Cypriot things that Limassol has to offer, such as the market, how close Limassol is to Aphrodities rock. There is a beach called Currium ( may have spelt that worng!) that is classed as in Limassol that offers paragliding and if you do not feel like doing that the beach offers excellent views and swiming!
I wish you had spoke to me before going on your holiday, I would of told you the places to see!!!
I like your writing style ;-)

Advantages: Great base for visiting the tourist sites. Has a fantastic waterpark Disadvantages: Not really a disadvantage but more like a city in parts than an actual tourist resort
