I went to stay in Limassol in 1999 for 2 weeks with my dad, and had a fantastic time..

I think Limassol has the best of everything, it is by the coast and has some nice beaches, and there is also night life for anyone that wants it situated in one area of Limassol.

The old town is nice with shops down side streets.

Limassol is a good place to stay in and you can easily get to other parts of Cyprus either by hire car (which I strongly reccomend) and if you really want you could try a bus (but we didn't!)

The capital Nicosia is great for shopping, and you really need a car to get there from Limassol, and you are able to view the other side of cyprus over the wall at the end of the street.

The Troodos Mountains are a great place to escape the heat from and view the landscape. There are the odd gift shop and cafe. I strongly advise that if you plan on a visit to the mountains then hire a car.
There are some nice villages in the mountains and one day I went out with an elderly couple I had met and were driving through a mountain village and were stopped by a local elderly man to go into his little home and have tea - which was really nice =)

There are some nice museums in Cyprus, but you have to hire a car to find them.

Me and my dad used to just jump in the open top jeep we hired and drive around Cyprus, looking at the views. One benefit was that my dad had lived out there for about 10 years so he knew the island very well.

There is a water park not that far from Limassol, which we didn't visit but would be good to take kids if you have any.

I really reccomend Cyprus, especially Limmassol. It has the best of everything and I think would be good for young, old, and families.
