I have heard the phrase 'Cheap and Cheerful' or 'You get what you pay for' but the LincolnArms Hotel, Dorking takes the biscuit.
What was wrong with it! (What was right with it should be the real question)
1) We were asked to call a head and state our arrival time, I did this two days before saying we would be arriving at 12pm, yet when we arrived our room was not ready, we had to wait 20mins for our room, which only gave us an hour for three people to get ready for a wedding we were attending. 2) In the room we were given four small towels barley big enough to cover a butt cheek! They were frayed a worn and greying in colour. The room was clean but very shabby with none of the duvet covers matching. Our TV had no reception and was placed high upon a tall wardrobe so we could not adjust it. The bathroom was tiny considering this was supposed to be a four person room. 3) Two o our friends had stayed the night before us and explained that they had no hot water and had been given a key to use another room on the floor below to shower but that it had not been possible for them to change rooms, which meant that they had to carry their stuff from floor to floor and room to room. 4) Another of our friends were shown to their room, half an hour later a man was banging on the door staying that it was his room and he had been staying all week, the staff had moved his stuff out of the room without informing him. 5) We also found out on the day that they no longer served Fried Breakfasts because it was not viable for the hotel so instead we could have a Continental Breakfast. The continental breakfast consisted of toast and coffee, when we asked for jam we were told it was 'on the table over there', no effort was made to bring it to us and the one pot was being used by everyone. 6) We asked for cornflakes and were informed that the hotel only had two bowls, the man on the tables next to us, finished his, the lady took the bowl rinsed it out with cold water and plonked it down in front of us to have our cornflakes. We were disgusted, and it makes me wonder why they no longer cook the breakfast. 7) The hotel is located on a busy main road and near Dorking station making it a good location but with single gazed windows it also makes it very noisy. 8) Downstairs of the hotel I a pub which is old and musty with a Smokey atmosphere, a real 'Old Man's Pub'. When you walk in you immediately think 'Oh God'.
The prices are per room not per person so it worked out very cheap because there were three of us sharing a room. Also the hotel is located literally next Dorking and was only 15 mins from the hotel we were heading to for The Wedding so it was in a convenient location.
Max number of guests it 40 people to why do they only have two breakfast bowls?
Conclusion:
I know it was a cheap night accommodation but I have to say in the future I would make sure I paid more money and stayed somewhere better. It was the breakfast situation that made me feel quite ill, and I would like to know how they could get away with this shoddy service, I am going to be placing this review on many review websites and also forwarding a copy to the hotel so that they can respond.
