Advantages: location Disadvantages: old, unwelcoming and too expensive for what it offers
I stayed in the Lincoln Hotel the other day for just one night. I have to admit that I didn't spend much time on the premises so my report will be quite brief.
When you look at the building from the outside, it makes you wonder what this Soviet-style hotel is doing next to the masterpiece of architecture - Lincoln Cathedral. It looks ridiculous. My husband and I were hoping to be pleasantly surprised by the interior, but there was ... ...of this wonderful city. The Lincoln Hotel is not particularly cheap - a double room cost us 80 pounds (around 145 US dollars) per night with breakfast for two.

When you look at the building from the outside, it makes you wonder what this Soviet-style hotel is doing next to the masterpiece of architecture - Lincoln Cathedral. It looks ridiculous. My husband and I were hoping to be pleasantly surprised by the interior, but there was no surprise there, just a bit of a shock for me. It was so horrendous - so tasteless and so behind the times! The reception area was all in bold garish colours, the corridors reminded me of a hospital that needed modernising, the white doors had fingerprints on, the lift was tiny. The room was no better, it looked small and dated. And although there were all the mod cons there - a separate bathroom, a TV, a trouser press, a desk, a double bed, two bedside tables, it just didn't look comfy and was not at all welcoming. The balcony door didn't open. The only thing I did like was the fact that the bed had a duvet, not a cover and sheets.
The breakfast the following morning was quite good - English cooked or continental, there was an abundance of fruit, and the service was reasonably good too.
Check-in and check-out was fine, no problems or misunderstandings there. They do lock the hotel at night though, so when we got back late the previous night we had to ring a bell and wait for about a minute for someone to open the door and check our key card. Security? Possibly. Another thing they need to improve is parking - not enough spaces and a bit awkward.
My final advice - avoid if you don't want to spoil your impression of this wonderful city. The Lincoln Hotel is not particularly cheap - a double room cost us 80 pounds (around 145 US dollars) per night with breakfast for two.

Whenever we try to go away somewhere for a 'cheap' break we always check out the travel lodges and Holiday Inn's first to see what offers they have because we like the fact that you always know what you're getting with them. You know they're not going to be fancy with special additions like in other hotels but you know that they will be of a certain standard and will at least be clean.
Mrs B and I decided we would try the Travel Lodge outside of Lincoln. We were going back to our old haunt Lincoln to celebrate another of our anniversaries and remember the place we met but since Baby B had arrived we had a little bit less money to splash out on somewhere more exotic.
Location
This travel lodge is not central to Lincoln. It isn't even a walk away. It is 5 miles south of Lincoln centre on the a46 which is a very busy road ...
Advantages: nice evening meals Disadvantages: expensive, in need of paint!
Mrs B and I met in Lincoln many moons ago when we were just 18 and so it holds many happy memories and we decided to celebrate one of our anniversaries by returning to Lincoln and treating ourselves by staying in the infamous White Hart Hotel.
All the time that we used to live in Lincoln this hotel was well known for it's so-called excellence and you had to be 'somebody' to be able to afford to stay there so when it came to our anniversary we thought we would really splash out and have a luxurious weekend in this hotel.
Needless to say we were disappointed. I think in terms of Lincoln this hotel is something special but not compared to other hotels in different areas. Lincoln, we always joke, is behind in the times and so maybe this hotel does seem very posh and well to do to good old Lincoln folk like we used to be but it really ...
When i needed some where to stay in Lincoln I decided on the Premier Travel Inn after checking other hotels around Lincoln i thought this would be the best. I'd stayed in Premier Travel Inns before,so I knew they were comfortable rooms and i was looking forward to my stay.
The location was not the best i'd seen, i don't really know Lincoln apart from the city centre so I was expecting it to be in the city centre however i found that this wasn't the case. The hotel is away from the city centre so you can't get to and from the hotel without a car/taxi which is a big downside.
Luckily i was driving so with the help of The AA route planner and some friendly Lincoln people i found my way to The Premier Travel Inn, Canwick Hill, Lincoln. However if i was not driving you'd have to get a taxi there as it is not within walking distance ...
