Well this is going to be a long Opinion i would say, because i am going to say about as much as you can about our Historic City.
Lincoln is roughly in the middle of England, but more towards the East than anything, the main, well known city's that are close to Lincoln are Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds, Leicester and Birmingham. It is quite easy to find your way to Lincoln if you are coming from anywhere in Britain really, as you the A1 is not really that far from Lincoln. It is about 15 minutes in general, and seeing that it is one of the main roads in Britain, you can see why it would be easy if you wanted to come and visit Lincoln.
Me, myself, i have lived in Lincoln all of my life, which spans an amazing 28 and a half years. I have lived in my present house for around 26 years, in a quiet place of the city.
So enough of me, and how you can get here, let me explain things in general.
First, lets speak about the city itself, and what is well known here.
Well Lincoln, and indeed Lincolnshire itself, is well known for the RAF Bases that are situated in and around here, we are also well known for the best Aerial Acrobatics Team in the world, with the world famous Red Arrows, who have now moved back to there home in RAF Scampton, which i am really pleased about, as it is not that far from me, and i can see them training whenever they do train in the air.
We also have RAF Waddington, which again is a well known base, it is one of the main RAF Bases for the AWACS in Europe, most of the AWACS used in the recent Iraq war, flew from here.
Lincoln is also well known for its historic buildings.
Firstly you can go and have a look around Castle, which is an amazing 1068, that makes it a mind boggling 935 years old, and it aged well, no wrinkles or nothing LOL, no seriously, you have to see it to believe how amazing it must have been to be fighting a war back in them days, when you had bows and arrows, and caterpults, if you go to the top of the castle wall, you can see how overpowering it must have been to be a enemy trying to get up the hills, because lincoln is on top of a hill, and in the olden days, it was even bigger, so if you look back and imagine trying to scale that hill, with hot scoldering water, and arrows coming towards you, with stones, you can imagine how daunting it would have been.
Also in the Castle, you can go and look at the old court room, where people were sentenced to prison, or indeed death for crimes against other people and the goverment. You can also walk most of the way around the top of the Castle, as i was saying before, it gives amazing Views, which on a sunny clear day, can be quite breathtaking, seeing that you are not that far from the Cathedral, so you can look at how beautiful this old historic Cathderal looks, i will speak about that more later. Also in the Castle, you can go all the way down to the Dungeons, which is quite eerie, because you have to climb down ladders, which when you look up, you can imagine how frightening and scary it would have been.
The main Court that is in use today, the Crown Court, is also situated in the grounds, but i am affraid you cannot go in and have a look around mostly, but you can look and walk around it, and that to, even though it is used today, you can still look at it and think its a wonderful old building.
also situated in Lincoln Castle is the Magna Carta, which is a 780 year old document, which is 1 of 4 only remaining original documents sealed by King John after he had the meetings with the Barons at Runnymede in 1215. it is available to see in a darkened room where you can read and learn about the effects it had on our own lives. It is also in its original enviromental conditions.
All in all the Castle is a beautiful thing that brings tens of thousands of people from all over the country, and the world, to see it each year, and now also they are starting to get Groups to come here to preform concerts, this year we have Liberty-X and 3SL, i know these are not big, big groups, but Lincoln is starting to attract these, and the Castle is a good place to hold them.
Next we have the Cathedral.
Now this is 1 monumental building, it is 1 of the best known Cathedrals in the world, visited by hundred's of thousand's of people each year, and i know that many of them come from America, which i am told by my internet friends over there that they do not have any, so you can see the fascination in the Cathedral, at night time, when it is dark and you have the lights turned on and towards the Cathedral, it can be a beautiful sight.
The Cathedral was built in in 1092, it was built by Remegious, he was one of the first Normon Bishops of the largest Diocese in medival England. The Cathedral to this day stands there, but it needs a lot of resteration work done to it, which will costs millions and millions of pounds, which the Cathedral is trying to raise. It did apply for a grant from the National Lottery, but was turned down, maybe because it was not in London, where they gave a grant to rebuild a Theatre for £180 million, so to give Lincoln Cathedral around £5 million was far to much to do i can see, hippocrasy is ripe today as it always has been i can see.
Anyway, the Cathedral has been a landmark for the City for many hundreds of years, but during world war 1, and world war 2, it was never ever hit, not by 1 bomb, which seeing we was one of the main countys with the most airbases, it was very suprising, but now the damage is getting to be quite bad, with the traffic, and polution making cracks appear and also brickwork crumbling. I just hope someone somewhere helps, because if you see the magnificent building, you will see why it is regarded as one of the best Cathedrals in England, and also the world.
So what else is there in Lincoln...
Lincoln, as i always state LOL, have got a Football Club, with a nickname that is well known, the IMPS, as we are known, are a third divsion club at present, we have been in the league for over 100 years, and we have one of the best grounds in the third division, and also the second and some of the first as well.
We, like many other clubs, have been in trouble with the collapse of ITV Digital, but we have got out of it, with the help of the fans, the Chairman, and the sponsor a seat campaign.
We are now in the playoffs this year, and we are 5-3 up in the first leg semi-final, so if we win on wednesday the 14th may, we will be at the playoff final against either Bournmouth or Bury, of which i shall of course be going, so i will not say nothing more about the Football Club apart from this.
COME ON YOU IMPSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. :).
So what else can i say about Lincoln...
In Lincoln, we have a lot of very well known outlets that you would find in many other towns and citys all over the country, you have Debenhams, which is one of the biggest outlets in the City, you have Next, which has 2 outlets opposite each other in the main High Street, you also have HMV or Andys Records to choose where you want to buy your newest collection of Albums, Singles, or even DVD's or Videos. You can go and stop off at the Local Bingo hall which is a Gala one, i know there are many of these all over. you can also, if you wish, go and get some food at McDonalds, there are many of these situated in the city, you have the main one in the city centre itself, to the drive throughs, which can be easier most of the time, if you do not want to que up for your meal for ages. You can go and purchase you Computer Games from the Game shop in town if you want to stay in the City Centre, but if you want to go a bit further afield, you have the Tritton Road Retail Park, this is where the main contenders are situated.
Here, in Tritton Road, you will find all the big name stores, like the DIY stores of Homebase or B&Q. You also have the big Computer Store, PC World, which is in itself a big stall, selling almost anything Computrised you can imagine, and you would sexpect that from the company.
You also have Comet, Currys etc, all the electrical stores, you can buy all your televisions from there, or maybe you want a nice new DVD Player, well that is where you want to go, unless you want to go and look at the local supermarkets, that always have deals in them now for TV's and also DVD Players, like Sainsburys, or Asda, or Tesco, which are all within 5-15 minutes of the City of Lincoln. The choice for all your needs are endless, but if you fancy a nice little trip out of Lincoln, you can catch a train to Nottingham, which takes about 45 minutes to an hour, and costs no more than £6.50 return.
So as you can see, the shopping experiance can be endless, if you live here though, it can get a little bit tedious, hence the trips to Nottingham, or Sheffield.
So what else, oh yes, the NightLife.
Ok, well if you was just visiting here from a little town you would think wow, its quite big, which, me coming from here, and knowing what it was like all them years ago, it is, but compared to say Birmingham, it is nothing, i went there for a night out, and it was massive compared to Lincoln, they had more pubs in 1 street, then we have in our City LOL. but still, it can still be a good night out.
For starters if you want a night out, you can to the well known country wide Wetherspoons, or Chicargo Rock Cafe, or you can go to a quiet local pub that are dotted around the City. You also have the well known Edwards, or Yates Wine Bar, which are well known around the Country. Then you have the Nightclubs, you have the triple floored Ritzy, which includes, Ritzy, Pulse and Jumping Jacks, so you have a varied amount of music, from The 60's to the 80's in JJ, to the latest dance music scene in Pulse, or you can go for the latest R&B and Cheesy music in Ritzys, the choice is yours. but we also have Walkabout, which is a pub, come club, this is open till 1am, where all the clubs are open till 2am, but this is a good pub, and club, very busy, good music, and good drinks, that makes it more appealing, and also what makes it more appealing, is if you get in before 10pm, it does not cost you a penny to enter, where as the nightclubs are £7, so you can see, a few extra drinks there.
All in all, Lincoln is a well known, well liked city, that is quiet, but also can be a good night out, and with the University that is getting bigger and better each year, it is bringing more students into Lincoln, which brings bigger and better Pubs and Clubs, which brings in more revenue for the City.
I would say, if you want to go and see a nice, quiet, but lovely looking city, come here, whether it is to see the Castle, or Cathedral, or just for a good night out, it will not Disappoint.
Advantages: Historic city combining the modern. Disadvantages: Become a bit to modern with a high student population.
...that in order to like Lincoln who have to be born there, so since I was maybe I am slightly biased ! Personally I think Lincoln is one of England's almost lost cities standing in its own unspoiled county without a motorway in sight and only a limited train service.

Many tourists to Lincoln believe that the Cathedral and castle were constructed by the Romans but this is not true as both structures were commenced by the Normans, approximately 500 years after the Romans left Lincoln.
Lincoln Cathedral started life in the late eleventh century and has since that time endured many traumas. First in 1141 a fire destroyed most of the Cathedral while in 1185 an earthquake shattered a good proportion of the ...

Lincoln is a small City in the Midlands ( about an hour away from Nottingham, Sheffield, Leicester.) I have been born and bred here so am a true yellowbelly!
The city itself has about 90,000 inhabitants, and is also home to a beautiful Cathedral and Castle.
It is now split into two areas - "the Bail" which is the uphill part of town where the Cathedral, Castle and old buildings are and the High Street which is the more modern area. Although if ... ...are delicious!
History
Lincoln was conquered by the Romans in 48AD who gave it the name Lindum Colonia. They settled here for many years and some of the Roman Roads still remain (if only in a more modernised tarmacked way) Tillbridge lane is a great example of this.
Castle
Because it is accesible from the River Trent and Witham and had good roadways left by the Romans, William the Conquerer ordered a castle be built in 1068
Within the Victorian ...

Advantages: lots of history, plenty to see, a nice small town feel to it Disadvantages: no huge concert venues
Lincoln is a beautiful city. I was born there and lived there for years, but although I have left there, I still think of it as home. Every time I enter the city and see the famous and beautiful Lincoln Cathedral on top of the hill, I feel emotional.
It is not a very big city - I believe it had a population of around 80,000 the last time I looked. It has quite a village feel about it, as people often know each other. It doesn't feel like a 'city' ... ...to look for the famous Lincoln Imp when you visit the cathedral !
Steep Hill is aptly named, so take it easy going up there, but it is worth it, just to see the quaint old-fashioned shops and tearooms there.
There are more modern shops to be found on the High Street and even a small shopping centre, but you won't find a huge Mall !
Lincoln is beautiful, historic and lovely to visit, but it does not have the advantages of the larger city, such ...

People expect Lincoln to be flat but once you have visited you suddenly realise there are hills in Lincoln.
One of the famous hills is actually called Steep Hill and this leads you to the castle, cathedral and a delightful shopping area known as Bailgate.
The castle is in excellent condition, built by the great man himself William the Conqueror in 1068. Once inside, there is a small charge for entrance, you can vist the dungeons, ... ...choir to see our famous Lincoln Imp is a must, he is easily found high up on one of the arches. From the nave look for the two beautiful glass windows, the deans eye overlooking the deanery and the bishops eye overlooking the bishops palace.
I think the cathedral has the best situation in the country it can be seen up to 40 miles away and when a Lincolnian comes home we always say oh the cathedrals still standing and we know were home.
Where else ...

Advantages: A lovely, compact City on the East Coast of England. Plenty to See and do. Disadvantages: None
...that, I love it. Lincoln however is one of England's most beautiful Cathedral cities.
Set on a hill, overlooking the unspoilt Lincolnshire countryside, you can see further than in practically any other county in England. The land is so flat that, the relief of a wooded area containing a few trees, a welcome sight in the area, could almost be called a forest.
The Romans were amongst the first to discover Lincoln. They must have gone north from ... ...up a military garrison in Lincoln to watch over the two great highways from North to South and from East to West. Roman Lincoln became one of the finest cities in Europe with, an inland harbour, an aqueduct and a sewerage system that was, at that time, unique in Britain.
I would think that Lincoln Cathedral is one of the finest buildings in Europe. Cologne Cathedral takes some beating but I would think that Lincoln comes a close second. The Normans ...

Living inLincoln, I have never really appreciated the true greatness of this castle. It is for this reason I have decided to write a review, not only to let the world know of it's greatness but also to remind myself just how amazing it is.
History
Built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror on the site of an old Roman fort, Lincoln Castle is one of the best preserved examples of a Norman castle. At the time one of the most significant settlements in the country, Lincoln followed York, Warwick and Nottingham in William's network of castles in the north/east midlands aimed at upholding his new Danelaw. Aside from two battles in the 13th century, Lincoln has generally been used as a jail, and today the castle walls surround Lincoln Crown Court.

's history. Steep Hill is a must see for people visiting the area. Up the extremely Steep Hill is Lincoln's olde worlde little centre. It has lovely gift shops and tea rooms and chocolate shops in the very old houses that line the cobbled streets. There is also the cathedral and castle either side of Steep Hill which are great places to go. If you go to the top of the castle and look out over Lincoln the view is amazing, I recommend trying that.
The modern area of Lincoln includes general shops that you see in most cities but again a lot of them are in old buildings and the precinct is pedestrianised and wide so it really gives that open feel that lincoln seems to have.
There is the wharf area of Lincoln to visit which has boat rides and tours of the river with a licened bar too.
There are a nice variety of shops and restaurants. There ...
