Lincoln is a beautiful city. I was born there and lived there for years, but although I have left there, I still think of it as home.
Every time I enter the city and see the famous and beautiful Lincoln Cathedral on top of the hill, I feel emotional.
It is not a very big city - I believe it had a population of around 80,000 the last time I looked. It has quite a village feel about it, as people often know each other. It doesn't feel like a 'city' in this respect.
It is also quite a safe place to live, with crime being apparently less than most other cities.
The historical parts of the city are the most famous, with the castle and cathedral the most popular attractions. Don't forget to look for the famous Lincoln Imp when you visit the cathedral !
Steep Hill is aptly named, so take it easy going up there, but it is worth it, just to see the quaint old-fashioned shops and tearooms there.
There are more modern shops to be found on the High Street and even a small shopping centre, but you won't find a huge Mall !
Lincoln is beautiful, historic and lovely to visit, but it does not have the advantages of the larger city, such as big multiplex cinemas - it has just one - or big arenas for concert venues.
The Theatre Royal is wonderful though, it has a great feel to it, being a small traditional theatre which even smells right (!) and is one thing I really miss about the place.
Lincoln has recently had a university built, but it doesn't seem to have changed the city too much.
There are many lovely historical buildings and Roman arches to see, which contrast with the modern university buildings, but they are in different parts of the city, so they can co-exist well enough.
