Transfer for Airport to Lindos
This can be a little scary, as the driver's batter along these long and open roads with not a care in the world. Or so it appears. It takes about 45/55 mins to get to Lindos.
Lindos its self is very hilly and we would not recommend it to anyone with walking difficulties.
Lindos Offers:
Lindos is all focused around one area; we referred to this as the down town. Not as bad as it seems. It's just that in order to get to the town you had to navigate a rather hilly road, tho there was the option to get a free bus down, (set times),and of course you could jump in a taxi for this too.
Once in the town it's an amazing place to be, you are greeted with bars, restaurants, novelty shops, crepe shops, linen shops, souvenirs shops and of course there is a donkey stop. Yip I said a donkey stop you will find out more shortly. Whilst in the town you can stroll around until your hearts content weaving in and out of the narrow little streets, this area is great as there are no cars around. However it can be busy with people.
Restaurants: There is such a variety of restaurants to choose from in Lindos. You have your traditional Greek in addition to this you have a great selection including, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, English, and of course Turkish. The food we ate was excellent, until we decided to have an evening meal on there open top roof, this is not advisable due to the number of cats that you will attract. A typical three course meal will call you 12-15e each. The portions of meals given are a generous size. Kid's meals are very good too; most restaurants provide you with a basic menu for the children. The cost of children's menu is usually 2-3e
Shops: There are a lot of shops with the same goods in them, so be careful that you are not paying to high for an item. It's well worth checking out the other shops and then going back to them. All the shops sell lovely handmade linen which is so stylish I am sure that many people will love it. There are of course your designer shops including Versace, Gucci and more however I did not look in them so can comment. I stayed to all the local shops. When walking through the narrow streets looking at all the shops what we all noticed it was very difficult to tell what shop owned what products. Most shops in the town do not sell alcohol or cigarettes.
Acropolis,
My favourite part of the holiday (except wedding) you have an option here take the donkey up to mammoth hill or walk? I had chosen to walk believe it or not. Walking up to the acropolis is an amazing experience. There are possibly about 300 steps for you to climb, whilst climbing these steps you will have several opportunities to get some great pictures over Lindos town. On the path to the Acropolis there are a lot of locals selling locally produced items (expensive). I would not recommend this climb to any young children as there in no railing to hold on too. So I made it to the top and now I needed to pay in it cost 5e at that time (subject to change) then your left to your own devices. From the first glance you thin that you're looking at some old pieces of rock. Just wait till you get close enough to see what you're looking at. Now I am not historian however I will do my best to tell in my words. There is a wall around the entire perimeter of the acropolis and I believe that this dates back to the 9th c BC. There are many ruins which date back hundreds of years, you may find this interesting if you're into ruins. Unfortunately we as a family are not. When you climb the acropolis you will be pleasantly surprised by the view over Lindos and the opportunity to get some amazing pictures. I certainly recommend that you look over to St Paul's bay; this is found at the far end of the acropolis. There is a shop on the top of the acropolis, I would not advise you using this as it is very expensive. I suggest that you take a bottle of water with you. So once you spend your time looking at all the ruins and taken your pictures you are only left with a rather steep walk down or of course you can take the donkey (5e each way).
Beaches:
Lindos Town Beach The beaches are very busy with tourist and locals alike, the main beech in Lindos town is very clean and has lovely sand. However there are a lot of rocks on the beach no always easy on the feet. You do have a good 15min walk to the beach from Lindos town centre. The water is lovely and clear and free from rubbish of any sort. You are able to snorkel in the water. Don't worry if you don't have the equipment to snorkel you can buy it at the beach for approx 10e. There is a lot of fish to see in the water and once again its an amazing place to get pictures. Sun beds are on the beach, If you decide to use them you will have to pay between 2-4e per day. Overall I would give this beach a 8 out of 10.
St Pauls Bay Beach
This is amazing beach, completely different from the other beech. To get to St Pauls you need to walk through the town centre, It will take you apporx 10 minutes to get there (well worth it) When you first get to St pauls bay you will be able to look right over the bay as you are approx 150ft above the beach. As you walk along you will see that there is a nice steep hill to take to take you to the beach. The beach itself is extremely clean, manmade. The water is perfect in every way, clear, clean and even smells nice. This beach is for the people that enjoy a peaceful place to relax. There are sun beds to hire at a cost of 6e, these sun beds are of good condition and made of wood then have a nice soft cover on them. You have the choice to place your sun bed close to the beach or further away. There are a few different height locations at this beach. The local retail outlet on the beach has a lovely wooded area where you can sit and enjoy a nice cold beer or refreshment. As you lie on the beach you are able to see St Paul's chapel, this is the location where most weddings take place. If your like me and want to get as much as possible from your holiday there is an option to jump aboard the glass bottom boat here for a cost of 3e each and you spend 30-40mins exploring the sea. Make sure you top up your sun tan lotion whilst on the boat.
Night Life:
This is where Lindos lacks, for those looking for the lively night life. Your night life is spending a few hours in one of the many local pubs. Most pubs have there own entertainment. The price of alcohol varies so much. See below
Vodka and Coke: 3e Alco pops 3e Local beer pint 1e
As you can see the prices are fair, if your in a group (5 or more) then you will find that most of the bars will give you a discount. Come on people get asking
Getting around:
Local Greek buses are very cheap and for approx 2e you can leave Lindos for the day and visit our parts of the island.
Car hire is cheap for ¾ days; you can hire a basic car (fiesta) for approx 80e. I would not advise driving in Lindos as there are too many locals that drive on the wrong side of the road whilst going round corners.
Taxis. The best way to get around Lindos, All taxies are like the ones in the UK and all have valid Licences numbers so you know they are real taxis. There taxis are all private care; however they are very stylish, Most have leather interior and of course these are all Mercedes with air con. Costs of taxis vary so much depending on the time. Average taxi fare from Lindos town to our hotel ¾ miles away was 4e. I would advise everyone to ask the driver how much before you get in. If you need to call a taxi to your hotel then you can expect to pay an extra 1e.
A must see/do in no particular order:
Acropolis St Paul's Bay Local Shops Glass bottom boat at St Paul's bay
Overall I would day Lindos is beautiful place and we as a family have already booked to go back for our wedding anniversary this October.
Advantages: Freindly, relaxed atmosphere Disadvantages: Slippery streets and some may find it too hot
...old Sea Captains houses that Lindos is famous for. Be prepared though because Greece is basic, very basic but we did have a lrage fridge/freezer and kettle which was great. The apartment had two rooms one with two single beds and a baby crib and the other room had three single beds and the usual bedroom furniture. It was apparent that someone had tried very hard to make the apartment "homely" which was a really nice touch. The only slight drawback ... ...to be aware of in Lindos - it's hot and when I say hot I mean hot, we did go in August (not the hottest month that's July) so were expecting good weather but I dont think we had a day where the temperature was under 30 degrees C. As soon as the sun came up in the morning it was hotter than you can imagine and there' s no respite from the heat. One day it even reached 43, which is not unusual.
Weddings - many people are choosing Lindos as a destination ...

Advantages: Quiet enough but with the option of a more lively time. The food, the people, the beaches and the weather, Disadvantages: Hills may not be suitable for some people. The weather, sometimes it can be TOO hot.
...not to say how good Lindos is just in case too many people start going there! I returned to Rhodes after visiting Lindos 10 years ago, I'd always said I'd go back, I just wish I'd not left it so long. The village can only be described as picturesque, set into a hillside and made up of small, white, flat roofed houses, most of which are hundreds of years old. Overlooking the village is the ancient Acropolis, well worth a trip upto, though walking ... ...fantastic.
The beaches in Lindos are pure sand, though the fact that Lindos seems to be about 5 degress hotter than anywhere else in Rhodes means that walking to the sea is like walking on hot coals. There's always a sunbed for hire and the beaches aren't too crowded either.
Although the Village gives a sleepy, relaxed, impression, there's some damn good bars in the village, though most shut at about 1am due to the noise controls, try Antika, just ...

Advantages: Absolutely Beautiful and Idyllic Disadvantages: A Tad Hilly
We stayed at The Lindos Gardens Hotel/Complex in Lindos In June 2005. Which is approximately 10/15 minutes walk down a fairly steep hill to Lindos town and (depending on who you're with and their walking abilities) about 20/25 minutes walk back up the hill from Lindos Town. (I advise that people with walking difficulties or Asthma problems may want to avoind this destination.
Lindos town is like something you'd find on a picture postcard. Lots of ... ...on the main road from Lindos to Faliraki and Rhodes Town, (rather like a large square). Here you'll find numerous buses which will take you to any number of places on the Island. Across the road/square from the bus stops is a kiosk from which you buy your tickets for the destination you wish to go to by bus. The kiosk is among a couple of supermarkets, which are very well priced. For example, at our hotel it'd cost 1 Euro for 500ml of mineral water, ...

Advantages: Great for Culture and sight Seeing Disadvantages: Can be very Windy
Lindos is excellent, we stayed in the Lindos Memories just outside of the town, Lindos town was a short Taxi ride away only a couple of Euro's. Lindos is a very old town, very hilly with narrow winding streets, with the Acropolis at the top of the cliff. We actually had our best holiday ever in Lindos. The weather was extremely hot as it is in the south of the Island, and it can be very windy. Be very careful during the day as you can burn very easily ... ...There are many restaurants in Lindos Most have roof Terraces with views across the bay and up to the Acropolis. Our favourite reastaurant was a Mexican restaurant in Lindos itself, excellent Traditional Mexican food. During the day Lindos town is flooded with coach loads of visitors on day trips to see the Acropolis, so I would recommend that you visit the Acropolis 1st thing on a morning before the coaches arrive, and save wondering round the streets ...

Advantages: Small, friendly and quite(ish) Disadvantages: None
...the world to visit. However, Lindos breaks that rule.
This little town is totally pedestrianised as its streets are very narrow. The streets all have grape vines covering them and this keeps all the stalls, locals and tourists cool from the sun. The town is overlooked by the magnificent Acropolis, which dominates the area and is an interesting afternoons entertianment.
For the evening there are loads of beautiful roof top restaurants to chose from ... ...Lindos by Night bar. The nights carry on until 1am when the music has to be turned off, so this is not a place for party animals. But there are a couple of clubs that carry on.
The town has three beaches to choose from, all lovely. The water is clear, clean and warm(ish).
This is the most delightful place I have ever visited and plan to definately go back. ...

Advantages: Beautiful and Idylic Disadvantages: Too many tourist shops and some steep walking.
Unless you are actually staying in Lindos your first approach will from the top of the surrounding hills, so you will be greeted by the spectacular view; The ancient Acropolis set at the highest point of the town overlooking the sea, the crecent of sand and clear sparkling waters of St Pauls bay, and the tightly packed traditional greek white houses, shops and Villas; accented with the odd Italian style villa left over from the 1930's when Rhodes was an Italian governed island.
As you proceed downhill toward the town square you can either turn left toward the beach or continue straight on through the maze of vine covered narrow streets and the vast array of small local stores, where you can purchase everything from an engagement ring to traditional Greek lace dresses.
Another thing that Lindos is not short of is the most wonderful ...
Advantages: services, food Disadvantages: I canot find
I was in this hotel from Last minute , everything as described, very happy with this choice! In my opinion this is right hotel for families with children (they can arrange baby sitting, one other thing that gets our thumbs up was the fantastic Kids Club). It was hotel run and the staff were absolutely brilliant. They had the kids baking biscuits, cooking taramasalata, they had treasure hunts on the beach, disco nights). Advantages: All inclusive Disadvantages: Not so good air condition system
I was in Lindos Royal Village (http://www.iberostar.com/EN/Rhodes-hotels/Iberostar-Lindos-Royal-Village3125.html) the last week of July 2007; I was there with the italian tour operator Liotti Viaggi (http://www.liottiviaggi.com/).
I enjoyed the experience, particular mention to the gently staff, to the rich buffets with a large variety of international specialities, to the three swimming pools (1.80 cm, 1.45 cm and 30 cm high) and beautiful sea with pebbles beach.
A bit disappointed for air condition system in my room, too old and not powerful enough to refresh as needed.
Not to be confused with the very close Lindos Village (http://www.veratour.it/it/la-tua-vacanza/villaggi/15veraclublindos/index.php?sid=a7664dbd8f06b1eb54e1664739c71524) a Veratour italian village. ...
