I'm tempted not to say how good Lindos is just in case too many people start going there! I returned to Rhodes after visiting Lindos 10 years ago, I'd always said I'd go back, I just wish I'd not left it so long. The village can only be described as picturesque, set into a hillside and made up of small, white, flat roofed houses, most of which are hundreds of years old. Overlooking the village is the ancient Acropolis, well worth a trip upto, though walking is a bit of a trek. You can take a donkey up there but personally, I find it a bit cruel to have some poor animal carry my 14 stone up a mountain. The other consideration is that you can easily get ringworm off them!!
During a two week stay, we visited many restaurants and I can honestly say, I didn't find a bad one among them, though I can recommend Villa Della Pasta, near the main square for the best pizza I've ever had anywhere, say Hi to Alex and Toni if you get there and Odessey, a fantastic Greek restaurant, with the nicest roof terrace in Lindos, give the meatballs a try and the swordfish is fantastic.
The beaches in Lindos are pure sand, though the fact that Lindos seems to be about 5 degress hotter than anywhere else in Rhodes means that walking to the sea is like walking on hot coals. There's always a sunbed for hire and the beaches aren't too crowded either.
Although the Village gives a sleepy, relaxed, impression, there's some damn good bars in the village, though most shut at about 1am due to the noise controls, try Antika, just don't ask Andy for a Vodka Martini and on no account let him make you drink sambucca shots, the man is evil! Just outside the village is the open air Amphitheatre nightclub, to which you can get a free taxi from the square. The club's open till 6am except on Fridays and Saturdays when it's open till 8am so you can see the sunrise, a sight well worth making the effort to see, even though your liver won't like you much for it. You can make the choice between a quiet night and an all night session easily though.
Lindos seems to be mainly frequented by copules and younger families, though there were a few stag and hen paties there during our stay, so there seems to be a good mix.
All in all, I'd say it was the best holiday I've been on and will be making a return trip, a damn sight sooner than 10 years this time though.
