After a very negative experience last year which resulted in a last minute booking in Rhodes and being stuck in the resort of Faliraki (with my thirteen year old daughter) the only good thing to come out of the week was a day trip to Lindos. We loved it so much we booked to come back again, but this time for a week. We booked through our local travel agent and our holiday company was olympic travel, we had great flights and good transfers, though be prepapred for a bit of a wait at Rodes airport as everyone is rounded up and onto the buses that will take you to your accomodation. We arrived in the early hours of the morning at Mary apartments, this was a dream for us as it was one of the old Sea Captains houses that Lindos is famous for. Be prepared though because Greece is basic, very basic but we did have a lrage fridge/freezer and kettle which was great. The apartment had two rooms one with two single beds and a baby crib and the other room had three single beds and the usual bedroom furniture. It was apparent that someone had tried very hard to make the apartment "homely" which was a really nice touch. The only slight drawback of the apartment was that there was no outside seating which was a bit of a shame but we managed sitting on the steps outside. Thigs to be aware of in Lindos - it's hot and when I say hot I mean hot, we did go in August (not the hottest month that's July) so were expecting good weather but I dont think we had a day where the temperature was under 30 degrees C. As soon as the sun came up in the morning it was hotter than you can imagine and there' s no respite from the heat. One day it even reached 43, which is not unusual. Weddings - many people are choosing Lindos as a destination to get married, the wedding chapel is on St Paul's beach now this is a great venue and idyllic, but brides to be beware, firstly the ceremony lasts less than ten minutes (probably because of the heat) secondly you dont get to go inside the chapel the ceremony is performed outside. The bride and groom are brought down a very steep, slippery slope in cars, but the rest of the guests seem to make the precarious journry on foot, no fun in heels at all! Having said that the people I talked to who had been married there all seemed very happy with the package they had been provided with (you invariably cath up with honeymooners and their friends and family over the next few days) The centre of Lindos is completely pedestriansied which is great, however mopeds and delivery vehicles are allowed which can be a nightmare sometimes. The streets of Lindos are like glass, I have never walked anywhere so dangerous be aware of this and alot of the roads are steep, if you have any kind of walking difficulty Lindos is not the place for you. Beaches - we only went to St Paul's beach, mainly because it was 10 minutes walk from our apartment, but also its much smaller and less people tend to make thier way over there. You will HAVE to pay for a sunbed and are forbidden from sitting on a towel on the sand, its around 3 euros each including an umberella (essential). A bar/cafe area was being construced when we were there which will improve the beach greatly as save having to carry the copius quantities of water that you need to stay alive! The sea is fantastic, warm, clear and blue a joy to be in. The food in Lindos is great and all tastes are catered for, ther's even an Indian restaurant! We ate in a different place every night, and I can heartily recomend the fresh fish which you will find on every menu. We had a great time, no mosquitos either which was a welcome relief though could have been the time of year. Lindos is beautiful, but if you are taking small children or in fact anyone the sun is burning and an umberella on the beach is essential. The people are friendly and we didnt get ripped off in any way during our stay. Drink Mythos the local beer its great and about 1 euro a large bottle! Cant wait to go back!

Advantages: Quiet enough but with the option of a more lively time. The food, the people, the beaches and the weather, Disadvantages: Hills may not be suitable for some people. The weather, sometimes it can be TOO hot.
