...We stayed at the Villa Rica Lisboa Hotel in Portugal about 2 weeks ago. It is a lovely, modern hotel near the center of busy Lisbon (if you can find a real center in that large, sprawling city!). Finding the hotel was a little difficult at night. We had asked directions from the Car Rental agency, but also had to ask from several pedestrians. The one who gave us the best and final directions was a young man who seemed to be a bit drunk or stoned ...
...to find again. But once we found it, we discovered that we were only around the corner from the underground train station..which is very cheap and very efficient. PARKING Luckily there is a free, very clean and well-lighted underground parking structure, which you enter directly next to the front door of the hotel. Advantages: Easy to get into the centre, but quiet.
Disadvantages: No swimming pool or outside area to relax.

...Our choice was the Real Parque., described as being comfortable and well located in a small residential area and also conveniently close to the heart of the City.A 4 star hotel. Two minutes walk will take a guest to the renowned Store "Corte Inglesa", which is beside the underground and the Eduardo VII Park and its "Estufa Fria" (Biological Gardens). ...two restaurants, the Cozinha do Real and another which doubled as a coffee shop. It had the most wonderful selection of cakes! plus snacks and also served meals in the evening. We were slightly disappointed on going downstairs, to find that the dining room was expecting a large coach party, and a buffet was set out for them, but the MaitreD, soon accommodated us and we were well looked after. ...taxi. I found that Roma was not the most upmarket of areas and as I was travelling alone felt rather nervous. The lobby to the hotel looks quite impressive and the staff are well turned out, but I did not find them particularly friendly. My room was pretty basic and very col
