Hotel Roma - Lisbon
Review of Roma Hotel, Lisbon by StevieR

Advantages: The buffet breakfast was quite good
Disadvantages: Unfortunately, lots!

...taxi. I found that Roma was not the most upmarket of areas and as I was travelling alone felt rather nervous. The lobby to the hotel looks quite impressive and the staff are well turned out, but I did not find them particularly friendly. My room was pretty basic and very cold - no carpet and the heater did not work. Also, the view from the window looked down upon the dreary, grey back entrance to the hotel and other nearby retail premises. I also ...
...often open! There is a bar and restaurant, though I was not especially impressed with my evening meal - soup is very popular in Portugal. On the plus side, my accommodation included breakfast and this was a good, 'eat as much as you want' buffet affair. Internet access is available in the lobby. There are some small shops nearby, but these really equate to local shops in England. There is a underground station not too far up the road and I was brave ... Read review

Hotel Borges -excellent for the price
Review of Hotel Borges, Lisbon by casadacha

Advantages: Location in excellent
Disadvantages: breakfast - don't bother, go to a cafe

The location of this hotel is excellent for a night out in the nearby Bairro Alto area and for shopping in the Chiado area. The breakfast was very basic - just a bread roll or a croissant and coffee from a machine ...

The staff were friendly enough. Don't expect to have a quiet night's sleep though as when we were there there were buskers outside until the early hours. But great if you're having a night out - there are lots of people around at night and it feels very safe. ... Read review

Is it arty-smarty or just arty-farty?
Review of Hotel Arts VIP Executive, Lisbon by koshkha

Advantages: Good price for the standard of hotel
Disadvantages: Not a great location unless you want to be next to the Expo Park

...all. I arrived at the hotel around 11 pm and was off again next morning at 9 am. However, even in such a brief stay, I think it's possible to get an impression of a hotel. The Arts is a four star hotel and is part of the Portuguese VIP hotel chain - I'll admit I'd not heard of it before but I was quite impressed by this hotel and would be happy to stay in some of their other hotels just to see if they are all like this. Where is it? The VIP ...
...slightly less pretentious. The hotel is a few blocks back from the waterfront and a block or two from the bus station and a block from the underground. The airport is just 2 miles away but the downside, if you want to be in the city centre, is that the historic area is about 6 miles away so you'll not be able to walk to th
