Lisbon paradise
Advantages: Close to airport, city centre Disadvantages: Small lifts
...an amazing stay at the Holiday Inn Continental, Lisbon which is centrally located between Av. República/Av. Berna and is just 10 minutes away from Lisbon International Airport and walking distance from Campo Pequeno subway station, Entrecampos train station and main public buses busstop. At £65 a night inclusive of breakfast, this was a bargain which we could not pass up!
From the outside the hotel is visually appealing with an elliptical glass ... ...sofas, bar and has over 200 rooms. The lobby appeared to have a gorgeous marble floor, with a modern decor. The staff speaks a variety of language including English, French, Spanish and Portuguese and were quite friendly offering us travel advice before we even asked! We were checked in very quickly and were offered porterage services. Our room was very large and airy, with a queen sized bed and double glazed windows making it nearly soundproof. ...

Hotel Borges -excellent for the price
Advantages: Location in excellent Disadvantages: breakfast - don't bother, go to a cafe
The location of this hotel is excellent for a night out in the nearby Bairro Alto area and for shopping in the Chiado area. The Metro station is right opposite and the famous cafe brasiliera is very close.
We booked a triple room and were a bit disappointed that the third bed was a sofa bed, but the room was large and clean and had a good standard of bathroom.
The breakfast was very basic - just a bread roll or a croissant and coffee from a machine ... ...many nearby cafes. The hotel has lifts which are old fashioned but much better than struggling up stairs with your luggage which is often what you get at this price range.
The staff were friendly enough.
Don't expect to have a quiet night's sleep though as when we were there there were buskers outside until the early hours. But great if you're having a night out - there are lots of people around at night and it feels very safe. ...

My honeymoon in Lisbon!
Advantages: Very comfortable hotel Disadvantages: not central, but not far off
BACKGROUND
We surprised everyone by announcing we were getting married in six weeks time and 200 miles from home (Cornwall). Unfortunately we had already booked time off for our summer holiday, (the wedding was a surprise for us as well - no I'm not pregnant!) so we ended up getting married one Saturday, and my new hubby had to be back at work the following Saturday. Not much time for a honeymoon then. We trawled the internet with only the criteria ... ...been before, somewhere which would be sunny, and not terribly expensive! We started looking at the Isle of Wight, and ended up going to Lisbon…
THE HOTEL
The hotel was built in 2005 and has four stars. There are wooden floors throughout and it is very modern and stylish. It very much reminded me of "after" on a TV makeover programme, lots of wood, glass and chrome.
It's very environmentally friendly, with lights (and piped music!) which are activated ...

A Contemporary Hotel Near to a Beautiful Monastery
Advantages: Well situated - close to famous attraction and good transport links Disadvantages: A bit pricey
Jeronimos 8 is one of the most contemporary hotels I have come across in the city of Lisbon, Portugal. It has a real 'designer' feel to the establishment and makes a refreshing change from the heavy wood furniture and long draped curtains that you come across quite a lot in Portugal. The hotel is well connected by tram, bus and train to the city centre. To save on costs whilst travelling to and from the hotel I suggest you purchase a Sete Colinas ... ...Manueline pieces of architecture - Jeronimos Monastery is only 200 metres from the hotel. Torre de Belem and the Monument of the Discoveries are a walk away at 1.5 kilometres and the Cultural Centre of Belem is about 500 metres away. Booking is very straightforward and can easily be done on line. It is just a case of choosing dates and stating the kind of room you prefer and the number of people staying. You can either pay a deposit or the whole ...

not so good if there is a problem
Advantages: cheap basic rooms, central location for Placa Commercial and tram 28 Disadvantages: en-suite rooms are not worth 70 euros when you actually get better facilities for 45 euros
...rooms and shared facilities, this pensao is a good deal - doesn't seem to me like it's worth paying any more and raising expectations. *I have ticked that I wouldn't recommend this place because of the manager's attitude to our concerns with the room - guarding profits rather than seeking to address our concerns with the quality of the accommodation. I would rather direct friends to places where there is a genuine concern for customer service. ...
