Hotel Roma - Lisbon
Review of Roma Hotel, Lisbon by
StevieR
Advantages: The buffet breakfast was quite good
Disadvantages: Unfortunately, lots!
...taxi. I found that Roma was not the most upmarket of areas and as I was travelling alone felt rather nervous. The lobby to the hotel looks quite impressive and the staff are well turned out, but I did not find them particularly friendly. My room was pretty basic and very cold - no carpet and the heater did not work. Also, the view from the window looked down upon the dreary, grey back entrance to the hotel and other nearby retail premises. I also ... ...often open! There is a bar and restaurant, though I was not especially impressed with my evening meal - soup is very popular in Portugal. On the plus side, my accommodation included breakfast and this was a good, 'eat as much as you want' buffet affair. Internet access is available in the lobby. There are some small shops nearby, but these really equate to local shops in England. There is a underground station not too far up the road and I was brave ...

Hotel Borges -excellent for the price
Review of Hotel Borges, Lisbon by
casadacha
Advantages: Location in excellent
Disadvantages: breakfast - don't bother, go to a cafe
The location of this hotel is excellent for a night out in the nearby Bairro Alto area and for shopping in the Chiado area. The Metro station is right opposite and the famous cafe brasiliera is very close.
We booked a triple room and were a bit disappointed that the third bed was a sofa bed, but the room was large and clean and had a good standard of bathroom.
The breakfast was very basic - just a bread roll or a croissant and coffee from a machine ... ...many nearby cafes. The hotel has lifts which are old fashioned but much better than struggling up stairs with your luggage which is often what you get at this price range.
The staff were friendly enough.
Don't expect to have a quiet night's sleep though as when we were there there were buskers outside until the early hours. But great if you're having a night out - there are lots of people around at night and it feels very safe. ...

Is it arty-smarty or just arty-farty?
Review of Hotel Arts VIP Executive, Lisbon by
koshkha
Advantages: Good price for the standard of hotel
Disadvantages: Not a great location unless you want to be next to the Expo Park
...all. I arrived at the hotel around 11 pm and was off again next morning at 9 am. However, even in such a brief stay, I think it's possible to get an impression of a hotel. The Arts is a four star hotel and is part of the Portuguese VIP hotel chain - I'll admit I'd not heard of it before but I was quite impressed by this hotel and would be happy to stay in some of their other hotels just to see if they are all like this.
Where is it?
The VIP ... ...slightly less pretentious.
The hotel is a few blocks back from the waterfront and a block or two from the bus station and a block from the underground. The airport is just 2 miles away but the downside, if you want to be in the city centre, is that the historic area is about 6 miles away so you'll not be able to walk to the sites. The underground would apparently take you about 25 minutes but taxis in the city are still very good value and cheaper ...

Worthy of a Stay
Review of Residencial Astoria, Lisbon by
Truelyana
Advantages: Central Location, Transportation Links, Shopping District, Old Town
Disadvantages: Lift-better use the stairs
Residencial Astoria is a traditional building, admist a road of charm and history. The employers are very welcoming, and always have a smile on their face, as you see them. This makes you feel right at home, as they like to suit your every need. If you are unsure of the area, than feel free to ask at Reception as they will provide you with excellent help, and point you to the leaflets on their entrance. There is a Bureau Du Change about a couple ... ...sure to ask at reception for the address, before you decide to go down there.
I stayed at the Hotel, back in 2006 on a trip part of University. At the time, there were quite a large group of us, and the room door were transparent, as trying to get to sleep was a mission, as I could hear every noise out the door. Young people, having fun out on the terrace, did not help the situation, but it was an experience nonetheless.
The Hotel is simple, and ...

Modern Hotel with Old World Service
Review of Villa Rica Hotel, Lisbon by
dortrek
Advantages: Wonderful Hotel and Food/Service; close to trains and busses, smoking rooms available
Disadvantages: Difficult to find from Airport
...We stayed at the Villa Rica Lisboa Hotel in Portugal about 2 weeks ago. It is a lovely, modern hotel near the center of busy Lisbon (if you can find a real center in that large, sprawling city!). Finding the hotel was a little difficult at night. We had asked directions from the Car Rental agency, but also had to ask from several pedestrians. The one who gave us the best and final directions was a young man who seemed to be a bit drunk or stoned ... ...to find again. But once we found it, we discovered that we were only around the corner from the underground train station..which is very cheap and very efficient.
PARKING
Luckily there is a free, very clean and well-lighted underground parking structure, which you enter directly next to the front door of the hotel. They also have a parking attendant on duty 24 hours a day, which gives you a sense of safety in a strange city.
LOBBY
As you enter ...
