Undiscovered gem
Advantages: Quirky and new Disadvantages: Not easy to get to
Lithuania is one of the places in Europe that is most untouched by the terrible flood of tourists. While it is just as safe in most tourist ways as Western Europe, it also has an "off the beaten track" feel for those who want to see a country that doesn't quite fit the mould. Whilst you can wikipedia all the facts about population and location and so forth, it is a great place to learn about European history from a slightly different angle. The country ... ...just plain bizarre (such as the Frank Zappa statue). It also has some of Europe's nicest beers. Most of the beers you can find in the shop are lagers, but if you look a bit harder, there are plenty of traditional Lithuanian beers that range from being unfiltered to cloudy, from a pristine factory to a beer that is made in an old mans left shoe. Each have their own character and taste. Of course these isn't the only reason to visit the country - it ...

The fourth republic
Advantages: Nice thought, and a good place in which to think it Disadvantages: Not much to see, except perhaps on April 1st
People in Britain tend to think of the three ex-Soviet Baltic republics, if they think of them at all, as a uniform group and to assume they're much of a muchness. I have to admit that before I went to the region I rather shared that assumption. Once there, one learns a bit about their individual histories and ethnicities, and observes their differing national characters. The Estonians are polite and efficient, but perhaps somewhat stolid. The Latvians ... ...has an edgy feel. And the Lithuanians? They are sometimes described as the Italians of the region, though I'm not sure that quite does them - or the Italians - justice. But they do seem more easy-going than their neighbours, and there is an offbeat, unconventional side to their nature. Why else would they allow yet another, a fourth, republic to declare its independence in the heart of their capital? Admittedly, no one takes the independence of Užupis ...

A small capital
Advantages: compact tourist environment Disadvantages: Unpleasant beggars
...And so the attractions of Vilnius are not extraordinary - just interesting and attractive. You can do a bit of this and a bit of that. A bit of not enormously impressive church viewing. A bit of amber museum, a bit of linen purchasing. If you want really big experiences you have to go elsewhere. I think a couple of days would probably be enough here - but the visit could be expanded to interesting sites in the area. The worst thing were the young ... ...sniffers - weak and sick. Vilnius is a vibrant economy - there are jobs for the able bodied. But these youths haunted you at some of the main tourist sites. I was surprised that the gov allowed them - it shouldn't be too difficult to encourage such anemic looking youths to go elsewhere and leave foreign revenue earners alone. Things to do:
The Old Town is the part that tourists go for - with its cobbled streets, lovely skyscapes, eccentric features ...

I Love Lietuva!
Advantages: Naturally beautiful, unusually charming Disadvantages: Still a little hung-over from the U.S.S.R era
I was introiduced to Lithuania by my husband, who is a Lithuanian. He lives in the UK but after we got married we decided to visit his homeland in the car via all of the European countries in-between, a kind of road-trip I suppose. I had heard many things about Lithuania from our Lithuanian friends, good and bad, so I really didn't know what to expect.
A little history...Lithuania is the largest and southernmost of three Baltic countries, though ... ...long history of warfare and struggle, which is symbolised in its flag: the yellow top stripe represents the sun; the centre green stripe represents the grass and the bottom red stripe represents blood for the land whch has been so lovingly fought for.
Lithuania established itself as a powerful independant state in its own right (unlike the other Baltic states who were conquered by German crusaders) in the 13th century. After 150 years of continuous ...

I love Lithuania, Like no place else !
Advantages: Very beutiful and exceptional. Disadvantages: Rather small but that doesn't matter :)
I love Lithuania, like no place else!
Hi, you probably know nothing about this country, but that is O.K. It’s a small country with 3.5 million people, another 300000 is somewhere in other countries. Though Lithuania is a small country we are proud of our traditions, capability to keep our language unique and other things. Also we are happy to join NATO, and ES. Such event gives us self- confidence and the world is beginning to know what the ... ...place for sightseeing and for spending your holidays. Let me describe you same places that you should visit, if you are in Lithuania.
First and one of the most famous is the Park of Europe (near Vilnius). Here you can find lots of works of art. They are really very interesting each of it has its own story and a reason of its appearance. The main work of art is the labyrinth made of TV sets that all Lithuania people brought there 5 or 6 years ago. ...
