Cheap Chain Hotel in Lithuanian capital

Advantages: Cheap modern hotel with English speaking staff
Disadvantages: Food was not great, no excercise facilities, bit homogenous

The Scandic chain of hotels is owned by the Hilton Group and as such the Scandic Neringa is a modern standard hotel in Lithuania's capital Vilnius. The hotel is much like any other in the Hilton chain, with a few minor 'twists'. There is no gym, no swimming pool, but there is a sauna. The sauna is on the top floor and is free for guests. Apparently it is fairly common practice to have a 'massage' in the sauna. Yes one of those massages. Not one ...
...hotel has 60 rooms and is located in the centre of the business district. I can't say what all the hotel rooms were like, I only stayed in one. This was a global standard room, nice bathroom, mini bar, TV with English channels and twin beds. It was clean and equipped so that it could have been almost any 3* hotel anywhere in the world. I was there in the recent cold spell, and the room was very very cold, so much so that I had to use an electic ...

A cultural experience

Advantages: Central yet quiet location, beautifully renovated building, stylish accommodation
Disadvantages: More expensive than other hotels in Vilnius - but worth it!

...a very pleasant surprise. The Shakespeare Boutique Hotel was also the perfect place to dispel any misplaced notions I may have had about the standard of accommodation in this Baltic capital. Hidden away in a quiet side street just off the main tourist drag, and only two minutes' walk from the main square and the cathedral, the Shakespeare is perfectly placed for exploring the city centre on foot. The street itself (Bernardinu gatve) is only accessible ...
...before it opened as the Shakespeare Boutique Hotel in 1999. The staff are courteous and friendly and all speak English, so the language barrier is no problem here. Once checked in, you will be accompanied to your room by a member of staff, who shows you all the facilities and explains one of the main features of this hotel: there are no room numbers. Instead, the rooms are named after famous literary figures, such as James Joyce, Thomas Hardy and ...

Triump for the Atrium

Disadvantages: no disadvantages staying at this hotel

...and old. sounds bad!but the Atrium is an old traditional Hotel right in the heart of Old Town, You can sit outside the hotel and watch the people promenade up and down the Street all day. Rooms? I have stayed in 4 very different rooms at the hotel, from basic to luxury, room prices can be negotiated, We have stayed in a two floor apartment on two occasions, real luxury. Found the basic rooms too hot. "El Gaucho" the hotel argentinian restaurant, ...

Radisson at its best

Advantages: Designer shops, restaurants, Casinos all within a couple of minutes walk
Disadvantages: No disadvantages at staying at this hotel

On arrival at the Radisson we were met by pleasant helpful staff. Foyer and bar compact but cosy. Our room was tastfully furnished but a little small for my liking. Breakfast was taken overlooking a beautiful Cathedral and the food was tastfully presented. We didn't use the restaurant as there are plentiful restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. If you like gin fizz the bar at the hotel is the place to have one, they are really good, if ...
