...This is one of the strangest places I've ever been.Everyone talks about it, but it's not that easy to find, and when you do, it's really hit and miss as to whether or not it's open. When we went the sign said it was closed, but nobody stopped us from walking around anywhere we wanted. The little cafe was open and sold the strangest tasting cans of fizzy drink. The cafe staff didn't question us being there when the farm was supposed to be shut! No information was available about what was going on and apart from some shallow pools of water and several large piles of broken conch shells there really wasn't a great deal to see. ...Belize is a very small English-speaking country in Central America. What stroke me most was the umazing mixture of races and its climate. Black people, Indian people, Chinese, Creole and White descendant, all mix in this country. This is a country for the adventurous traveller, there are very little paved roads and it is not easy to find a decent accomodation at cheap prices. I enjoyed very much the local culture, people are extremely friendly and laid back. As some other commentators highlighted, security can be an issue at night. I spent one week along the Cayes, small islands not far frm mainland, surrounded by low and very warm water. Although food is much more expensive because it needs to be brought from mainland, you can still have a huge lobster for $10-15.... Read review

...Caye Caulker is an island, which now consists of 2 island since the hurricane in 1961 split it up in 2 islands!. It can be dangerous to swim in unprotected areas since there are a lot of engine-boats in the lagoon, and they do not seem to care to much about swimmers! It is very easy to arrange a boat trip to be taken to the reef, where you can go snorkeling. I would highly recommend this. There are plenty of tropical fishes in the water, and corals. Just one word of caution. Try not to touch the coral, since, apart from the fact that you would damage it, it can be bad for your health. Some corals cause burnings, and many can cause small cuts. I stayed at Tom's Hotel for $40 per night in a modern cabin. Cheaper accomodation can be found, but if you can afford it, this place is worth its money.... Read review
