Capital of Culture 2008

Advantages: Cultural - steeped in history & heritage
Disadvantages: Lack of investment

LIVERPOOL - European Capital of Culture 2008

This is the first in what will be a series of city reviews, when I get around writing the others that is !!

I could quite easily go on about my home city all day long..... A city, which for reasons beyond it's own control, has received a very bad press for far too long.

I have lived and worked away from the city now for over 10 years, and can say with absolute ...
...2 Universities

Liverpool .... I love the place, I love the people (well, most of them anyway), I love the fresh sea air, the humour, the art, the football, the heritage, the history, the music, the culture ... It's got it all, but unfortunately suffered a massive industrial decline in the 80's, leading to mass unemployment and large scale economic and social decay, from which the city has only - in the last 3-4 years - really started ... more

Lively Liverpool

Advantages: I live here
Disadvantages: Some shops aren't here, the weather

...just come to study here, Liverpool will always hold a special place in your heart. Liverpool is one of those deceptively small cities that squeeze in so much - culture, entertainment, sports, religion… There is nothing that Liverpool does not have to offer. CULTURE: Liverpool has several theatres - The Empire (the largest and arguably the best), The Playhouse at Williamson Square, The Neptune on Hanover Street, The Unity Theatre, the Royal Court, ...
...well as the slave trade); Liverpool Museum (the largest of the local museums, incorporating archaeology and sciences); and the Walker Art Gallery (the ideal place for art lovers). I'd recommend: A night at the Empire ENTERTAINMENT: This is where Liverpool truly excels. What would you like to do today? Watch a live band at The Picket, visit Cream nightclub, trawl the bars or just take in a meal at one of Liverpool's many restaurants? Liverpool houses ...

Liverpool is a Must-Visit for all Beatles Fans

Advantages: the Beatles, nightlife, cheaper than London, friendly people
Disadvantages: not very green

...were as enthusiastic to visit Liverpool as I was, so we decided to stop there on the way back from a trip to Scotland. We had a wonderful time in Liverpool and were sad to leave. Unfortunately, we could only spend one night in Liverpool due to social obligations back in London, but our one evening was packed with fun. The man who ran our hostel (more on this later) told us that a lot of visitors at his establishment intend to stay for one night, ...
...As most people know, Liverpool is traditionally an industrial city, but it has made efforts in the past few years to beautify, especially the harbour area, knowing that Liverpool's musical history would attract tourism. Near the Albert Dock, there are several trendy restaurants and bars alongside tourist attractions including 'The Beatles Story,' the Museum of Liverpool Life, the Maritime Museum, and a branch of the Tate Gallery. On your walk to ...

...princess in the city of Liverpool . I have been home for two days now, the hangover and tiredness is on it's way out, but the memories will remain forever, so I would like to share with you the delights of wonderful Liverpool. This is not going to read like something out the tourist board office but my experience of what I saw and got up to there. CALM DOWN CALM DOWN

Advantages: Full of things to do
Disadvantages: The stereotypes connected to the city

...would write a guide to Liverpool seeming as I originate from The Wirral which is just "over the water" and I also now live in Ormskirk which is just ten minutes drive from this busy city. My Liverpudlian friends refer to me as either a Plastic scouser(when in Wirral) or a wooly Back (when in Ormskirk!)- oh the scouse humour! I am willing to bet that when you first read that this op is about Liverpool you thought one of three things about the city. ...
...calm down"! yep, Liverpool has many stereo types but it really isn't a bad place. I have been spending my saturday nights in Liverpool for ages now because it has such a good atmosphere. I love the fact that everyone is really friendley and just out for a good time at the weekends. If your like me and you like to unwind at the weekends and have a good night out then you won't be disappointed with the Liverpool night life. Mathew street is a real ...

Welcome to Liverpool

Advantages: Cheapand Fun
Disadvantages: LOUD!

Liverpool has a reputation as one of the most energetic student cities in Europe. It’s alive with music, spot, shopping and nightlife. Higher Education plays a key role in the life of the city and the people of Liverpool are proud of their University and that is why when you arrive, you soon become part of the community, which is known for it’s friendliness and wit. Since the Beatles took off in the 60’s, Liverpool has been a ...

The Cambridge

Advantages: nice out side
Disadvantages: none

The Cambridge Pub Liverpool The Cambridge located just between Liverpool and John Moores University is generally a quiet small pub where some students hang out. Mostly the ones who live on campus and is basically their local. The Cambridge serves a good variety of lagers and bitters but nothing stands out as a classic beer of this pub. The Cambridge is one of the more expensive places to drink on campus but is generally cheap for visitors to Liverpool. In the summer the Cambridge is a very nice lace to sit out on their benches just of Abercromby Square which is a bit of a heat trap. I remember lots of enjoyable afternoons their. The Cambridge does not have a pool table or darts and rarely plays music is a place to go for a quiet chat. ...

Review of The Cambridge

An Oasis

Advantages: Easy parking, relaxed atmosphere
Disadvantages: not really the best place to look for a bargin

The Albert Dock is a welcome relief for shoppers. Parking is free and plentiful and the shops are far less crowded than the rest of Liverpool City centre. There are some lovely places to stop for a spot of lunch - for a more traditional slant there is the Pump House Pub and for those who like something with a more modern feel there is always the roomy, relaxing, Blues bar - perfect for chilling out after a hard afternoon shopping. The shops are generally slightly more expensive than in other places in Liverpool, but these shops are not the run-of-the-mill chain store variety, so the products are likely to be unique. Wherever you go in the Albert Dock you can enjoy the sea are and beautiful view of the harbour. The are also pleasure rides provided for anybody who wants to see the harbour at a more intimate level. All in all ...

Review of The Albert Dock

Can it be this simple...!?

Advantages: Clean, spacious, quiet
Disadvantages: Not as many flights from here

...it appears it can be! Stansted, how nice it is to travel through an airport that is so spacious, calm, quiet and efficient. This is where over airports could take a few tips. The airport has changed a lot over the years. It used to be a rundown, small 'hanger' with very few facilities and a crowded terminal building. Now, well its somewhere completely different, its design is very modern and quite futuristic. The links to the airport are clear, easy and cheap in general. Rail links, Stansted Express(http://www.stanstedexpress.co.uk/), take you straight under the terminal from London Liverpool Street within 30mins. You can pre-book your tickets online and collect at the station or have them sent to your house if you book more than three days in advance or just turn up and pay. You can park in the short stay carpark ...
