Grad All Over

Advantages: Cheap; easy to access; picturesque; great views
Disadvantages: Not a great deal to see

...the first time I visited Ljubljana I was delighted to find the castle bathed in red light to celebrate Valentine’s Day. There has been some kind of settlement on this site for centuries, understandably so as Ljubljana sits on a plain with the southernmost peaks of the Julian Alps visible to the north of the city on clear days, and the castle is perched atop the highest point of the city. ...have this role. = LJUBLJANA CASTLE Ljubljana castle is the prominent feature of the city, perched on a hill high above the Ljubljanica river. There is evidence that castle hill was inhabited back in the 12th century BC, with remains found dating from then. While there are suspicions of fortifications during the times of Roman Emona, the first documentary mention dates from the early 12th century, which served as the seat of the provincial ...
