Ljubljana - Laibach (lie-back) and enjoy
Advantages: Compact, good street bars and cafes, attractive buildings, the river Disadvantages: Compact
Ljubljana is the capital city of Slovenia, which is the northernmost republic of what used to be Yugoslavia, sharing borders with Italy and Austria in the Alps, and Hungary to the east and Croatia to the South. Slovenia was one of the 10 countries which joined the European Union on 1 May 2004, and adopted the euro as its currency on 1 January 2007. Slovenia will take over the rotating Presidency of the EU on 1 January 2008, the first of the new Members ... ...became part of Yugoslavia, and Ljubljana became the capital of the newly independent republic of Slovenia in 1991.
= MAIN THINGS TO SEE IN THE CENTRE
Although I've been to Ljubljana on three separate occasions, the visits were fleeting and I have only spent about a day here, so I can't claim to be an authority on the city. However, I have managed to explorer its compact centre pretty thoroughly, and so here are what I would recommend as ...

City of Culture
Advantages: so much to see, do and learn, a beautiful city in the heart of Slovenia Disadvantages: not suitable for party animals and sun, sea, surf and sand seekers!
***LJUBLJANA***
Ljubljana (pronounced: lube lee ana) is the capital city of Slovenia. There has been a lot of discussion into the name and where it originated from some believe that it was named after the Latin name 'aluviana' which refers to a flooded river. Romantics however would prefer to believe that the name refers to the Slavic word 'Luba' which means 'beloved'.
I visited Ljubljana two years ago for a European Convention. I really could ... ...impossible to look out over Ljubljana without catching a glimpse of the gorgeous castle perched prominently on the hill. The Ljubljanica River flows elegantly down through the city, passing the cobbled streets and many cafes and restaurants. On first impressions I was surprised at how young the locals seemed. I was told by my mate that the city is home to thousands of students, about 50,000 in total. It seems like a very easy going place with a great ...

Night life in Ljubljana
Advantages: Great night life, beautiful buildings, fantastic city Disadvantages: none
Ljubljana is my favourite european city becuase it is cheap, beautiful, fun and it hasn't been spoilt by english hooligans yet.
The best night club is definately Global, it has good music, good prices and loads of beautiful people who are out for a good time. You feel welcome and safe when your in the club and it has fantastic facilities.
The entrance to the club is via an elevator in the street and the club itself is on the top floor of a shopping ... ...to the roof. there is a terrace which gives views of the whole city and provides a good "chill out" area. You then move into the club itself which has a large bar, large dancefloor and extensive seating.
I would thoroughly recomend a visit to Global if you are in the city. It is one of the best clubs I have been to, and was one of the best nights out of my life.................Enjoy!!! ...

Trip to Ljubljana Please!
Advantages: Undiscovered, Cheaper Than Home, Safe Disadvantages: City is Quite Small
...of you who know about Ljubljana and Slovenia can skip this. The city of Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia, a part of former Yugoslavia located in the heart of central europe with Italy to the west, Hungary to the East, Austria to the North and Croatia lies in the south. Thus it is very easy to reach by car, bus or train from any of these countries if you are off exploring. From the UK now Easyjet have started a service flying from London Stansted ... ...city ASAP.
I visited Ljubljana this July during a tour which included many cities in Europe from the delightful Geneva and Paris to the not so nice Skopje in Macedonia, however there was something about this city which made it stand out a little from the average cities and it is my experiences here that i want to discuss.
I arrived in Ljubljana by train from Vienna, during which you get to see a little of rural Slovenia which in my oppinion looked ...

A Taste Of Christmas In Slovenia
Advantages: Small but perfectly formed...between the Alps & the Adriatic. Disadvantages: Very Few Indeed!
...for a Capital City, Slovenia's Ljubljana is positively tiny.
We flew across central Europe on a frigidly cold December day. A plump blanket of cloud obscured everything beneath us until suddenly, somewhere over Austria, it ended abruptly and a row of jagged Alps stood gleaming in the sunshine. The plane was mainly full of Slovenians, returning from shopping jaunts to London. I'd watched them, almost pityingly, as they'd hauled down their Hamley's ... ...you reach the outskirts of Ljubljana proper. These outskirts, unsurprisingly, are characterised by a number of tall, communist-era apartment blocks, some of which have been embellished, others not, but a proliferation of very snazzy, Western-European style advertising on almost every available surface works to disguise Slovenia's recent Socialist past very efficiently. We stayed at the Park Hotel, which was easy to find and certainly central enough, ...
