Advantages: PRICE and GOOD LOCATION Disadvantages: STAIRS AND ATTIC ROOM
LOCANDA NOVO is a small Hotel , they describe it as an Inn, located on the main Island of Venice.
We Quatro Fontanas (Fountain Travel Group) have stayed there once, and would consider it again.
For the price this Hotel is very good but there are some limitations that might put you off if you have dodgy knees.
First the location, OK it is not St Marks but you are not paying St Mark's prices. If you look ... ...less than £50 per night for a double room with breakfast.
The Hotel has its own web site WWW.LOCANDANOVO.IT which is quite good, but you will get a better price booking through other sites, but it does show you the official rate.
It is located off a small Alley in the Cannaregio District of Venice. The best local land mark is the Church of Saint APOSTOLI find this and your only 80 yards away. The nearest Vapporetto Stop ... more

First the location, OK it is not St Marks but you are not paying St Mark's prices. If you look through WWW.HOTELSCOMPARISON.COM site you will find offers of less than £50 per night for a double room with breakfast.

It is located off a small Alley in the Cannaregio District of Venice. The best local land mark is the Church of Saint APOSTOLI find this and your only 80 yards away. The nearest Vapporetto Stop is on the Grand Canal at CA'D'ORO, if you get off here go straight with canal at your back. Turn right along STRADA NOVA which brings you to the Church, turn left and look for the small alley on your right.
The hotel itself is quite small but TALL. There is a small Lobby with Check In desk, we found the Staff Friendly and helpful. Just off this area is a small office/kitchen area for the staff.
Now for those DODGY KNEES, NO LIFT.
A stair case leads to the first floor where there is a large Gallery with about 6 Rooms that open off the Gallery.
We found our room quite pleasant and bathroom in good order.
Beds were comfortable and clean. As it is off an alley we did not get much noise at night, but then again we have found that Venice tends to go to bed earlier than most Italian Cities.
Breakfast is brought to your rooms on a Tray, the rooms are quite big and we had a Small Table and Chairs to use for breakfast.
Now more about those DODGY KNEES.
If you are unluckly like My Brother Rob and his wife Ros, they were on the second floor.
This is acessed by another steeper stair case, almost like climbing the North Face of the Eiger.
Best described as an Attic Room, do not sit up too quickly in bed, you may well bump you head on the beams. Very Cosy might be a description.
They knew when breakfast was coming on their tray, as they could here the member of staff wheezing up the stairs.
Probably best make sure you do not get this room.
After all that, I would sum up by saying that apart from the ATTIC this is a very good bargain for Venice.
Being a little away from St Marks, about 20 min walk when you learn the route. The local restaurants are more reasonable in price and better in quality.
The STRADA NOVA is a fine street with many shops for the Shopoholics and has local market stalls as well.
We have just returned from the Locando Novo and were very impressed. It is a small, family run inn/hotel in a very central location. We found it very quiet, unlike other hotels we have stayed in Venice, apart from the church bells starting at 7am and sounding every half hour until 9pm!
We booked via Octopus Travel online and paid £45 per night for a double room which included breakfast. Not bad for a city centre! You can book directly with the hotel ... ...is fun, luckily this one is behind a major church, S. Apostoli, so we were able to ask directions to that, then found it easily. It is also on the main road Strada Novo that links the bus and rail station to the Rialto Bridge, so very handy.
The outside door to the hotel is kept locked which made me feel safe, and staff always are on hand to answer the bell and let you in. There is a small reception area, beautifully decorated in Venetian style. ...
