We "Quatro Fontanas" (Rob, Roz, Jane and I) were on our annual march trip to Venice, coincides with Jane and my Wedding Anniversery (39 this year).
We had to look for a new place as the Locanda Remedio, had hiked its prices, perhaps I should keep these places to myself instead of giving them good reviews.
Anyway managed to book one double thru ALPHAROOMS for just over £100 for the three nights, but had to book second room direct which gave us an average of £200 per couple. I thought I would be able to get a second room thru one of the others as 5 showed room available, but after booking with Alpharooms, the other sites no longer had a room, so it looks like they share a database and the Hotel only put one room out to them. At the Alpharooms price
this place is a real bargain, but at the direct price perhaps a little steep, given the limited facilities.
The Locanda is easy to find, if problems just ask for directions to the Hospital, all Venitians know where that is and there are many signs to "OSPEDAL". When on the square you have the Hospital (Although you may not think it is one due to the glorious frontage) to its right you have the Large Church or San GioVanni st Paolo. go down the street to the right of the church, has several shops. About 50 yards down you will pass another Church on the left, 20 more yards turn right and the Locanda is just on the left, opposite the Florist Shop.
Entry into a small reception, manned during the day but not at night, so if late follow contact details on your booking form.
Friendly Davide was there to welcome us with a big smile, as he puts it he is one of the Survivors (Original Venitian). Check in a few minutes while passport details are checked.
The Locanda has about 6 rooms spread over three floors, so if walking difficulties request lowest possible, ours was Room 3 on first floor. I thought they were very good sized rooms for Venice. Ours had a Comfortable Double Queen sized Bed. Dressing Table with Chair, Double Wardrobe, bed side tables, and a Table with two further chairs. All Funiture was in the venitian style of painted furniture. Also beautiful Chandalier and good pictures.
The table and chairs are necessary as Breakfast is served in your room.
The Bathroom had a Full sized Bath with Very good shower, bidet, toilet and sink. Good towels replaced each day. Wall mounted Hair Dryer.
The room had a Radiator which kept the room very warm, there was also an Air Condition unit for use in the summer.
There is a phone. But no TV (which to us is no problem)
Our Window looked out on to the Street, but is is a quiet area so no problems at night, although we did close the wooden shutters at night as we faced a Room in the building the other side of the street.
Rob/Roz had the attic room, again they enjoyed it and had a wee bit more of a view.
As said breakfast is in your room, you advise the time you require it and the Lady brings your tray at the time booked, if you return late and want to change the time just leave a note on the desk. Breakfast was contineltal, choice of tea,Coffee, Hot Chocolate. Bread Rolls with butter and Jams, Honey. and a Coissent. (The ladies were impressed with the tea, Pot and Water HOT also two tea bags, we Men also enjoyed the coffee, but hey this is Italy so Coffee is always good.
You are given a Room Key, a key for the internal door to reception and one to the outter Door, just pull these closed when Leaving or entering when recption not manned.
So overall I would recoomend this Hotel for Couples, it is a Good Area of Venice not often given much time by tourists, so Local Restaurants and Bars are that much cheaper and better quality than around St Marks. When you learn the Route you are 10 Mins stroll from Rialto, 15 mins St Marks. 5 Mins from Fonfdementa Nova where you have Vaperroto that go to Murano and Burano. But I do feel you need to get it at an Internet Site Price, although the Direct Price is not out of line with other Venice Hotels.
