London Aquarium

As half term is looming ahead, just an idea as to where you can take the children is the London Aquarium. Being a Piscean where best for me to see some relations ! Hubby and I took my three ankle biters in the last half term which was October.

Here's a guide as to what to expect if you make that journey.

~~WHERE IS IT AND HOW TO GET THERE.~~

The London Aquarium is situated ...
...situated right next to the London Eye, past Westminster Bridge and within walking distance to Big Ben and The Houses of Parliament. Salvador Dali has one of his curious statues close to the entrance.
Being London there is limited parking so I suggest you take public transport. If however you decide that driving into town is more convenient for you then there is parking at The Royal Festival Hall or you can use the underground parking facility ... more

...of our Planet...... join the London Aquarium on a journey into this great unknown' I have always been fascinated by the underwater world and all it's weird and wonderful creatures, hence why I'm studying Marine Biology at Uni. Over the years I have been to a number of aquariums including a couple from the well known Sea-Life chain. Underwater antics

Advantages: family discounts, variety of activities and fish, very calming atmosphere
Disadvantages: very dark inside aquarium and very warm due to heating and tanks

The London Aquarium is located in County Hall on the south bank of the River Thames in Westminster, central London. The aquarium has up to a million visitors per year and is a very popular place with the tourists. Due to the aquarium located where it is you have the London Eye just a few yards away, a clear view of the Houses of Parliament and the famous Oxford Street just a mile down the road. Getting to the aquarium is very easy with a range of ...
...The opening times are 10am to 6pm, 7 days a week. Summer late opening times are 10am to 7pm, the aquarium is only closed for one day being Christmas day. There are 14 different zones with tanks and displays with freshwater, stream, Atlantic, rivers and ponds, Pacific, Indian ocean, touch pools, temperate waters, coral reef, invertebrates, tropical freshwater, mangrove and rainforest. Fishy.. def not

Advantages: many species , value for money, calming atmosphere
Disadvantages: limited shop ,not long enough

I went to the London Aquarium for the first time a few months ago and can't wait to go back. They had the most amazing exhibits i have seen at an Aquarium. Their "touch" section whee you can touch Plaice, crabs, starfish and further on a big tank where you can touch stingray is fabulous. The whole experience is amazing . It's a very big place just near the London Eye. It looks very small but it is massive. I cannot get over the amount of different ...
...advice and go either with your family or friends you will not be disappointed. And look out for the Pirahna fish. they are the stillest fish i have ever seen. They have not only small fish there are beautiful sharks in the centre of the aquarium which you could just stand there for hours and watch. It's a very calming place to be... maybe not in the school holidays but when it's a rainy day you have hours worth to do. My only critiscism is that when ...

Something Fishy.....

Advantages: Great sea life
Disadvantages: A bit expensive

...If you live in London or not, you must try and see the Aquarium, it is brilliant. It is right by the London Eye so directions to it should be okay, or if you use the tube, Westminster is the best stop. You start off by walking in and there is this Ford Ka in the entrance way. Un be known to me, until later it has actually been converted into a mini aquarium. All the windows have been sealed up and it is filled with rocks and water with fish inside ...
...all around. That alone was well worth a look and a photo. Entrance into the aquarium was quick even though it was fairly busy! It cost £8.50 per adult which I thought was a little expensive but at the end it was well worth it. There are hundreds of fish there, from carp to sea horses, from sting rays to sharks. The shark pool was busy and I can see why. It is a huge pool about 40 ft deep and there are about 4 viewing pods all at different levels. ...

Catch of the Day

Advantages: A good outing for the whole family
Disadvantages: None

We recently visited the London Aquarium with our two year-old daughter. As it was freezing outdoors we wanted to go somewhere warm and somewhere that would keep our daughter's attention. The aquarium proved to be the perfect solution. We managed to avoid the high entrance fees by taking advantage of a 2 for 1 offer that we found when booking train tickets to London. That helped considerably and resulted in a cheap outing for the three of us. The ...
...of toddlers there so the London Aquarium is definately a hot spot for tots to visit. (We were there on a Sunday.) The petting tanks were also very popular with the kids, though our daughter was a bit small to safely touch the fish without falling in! She enjoyed just splashing the water though and watching the others having fun. For the more serious fish fanatic satisfaction is guaranteed. Good descriptions of the fish are available to read. Merlin Annual Pass - now has restrictions

Advantages: Unlimited 12 month access to the attractions
Disadvantages: It has restrctions in February, August, October and December (2009 so far)

/Sanctuaries (national) The Dungeons (national including the London one) Is there any catch? Yes and not a small one. The offical statement: Unlimited entry is subject to attraction operating calendars and the following exclusions at London Eye, Madame Tussauds London, SEA LIFE London Aquarium and London Dungeon; 14th February, 'before 3pm' during August, 31st October and 26th to 31st December inclusive. However when I ordered the clubcard tokens months ago, intended for use in the summer holiday and other later holidays, I didn't see the restrictions of August and December. What a cheat! They just add the restrictions as and when they want! Also, I live way outside London and with this now limited pass, I have to plan my day trip to these attractions in London very carefully. Also ...

London is Great

Advantages: Many Things to Do and See
Disadvantages: Too Many Things to Do and See

I've been a Londoner most of my life and I believe it's the best place to be. Alright we don't have the best weather in the world and the transport system could do with a bit of improvement, but in general if you want to get from the subhurbs into the city then the journey's not too bad and can take less than an hour. London has many things to do that most Londoner's don't reaslise until they have visitors from out of town - the museums of Kensington, London Zoo, the London Eye, the Aquarium, the list goes on and on. And as for the food, well London is the Cosmopolitan city in that respect. I Love London, but I wish I could spend a bit more time there ...

London by river - sighteseeing with a difference

Advantages: A whole new perspective on London
Disadvantages: More time consuming

, the Houses of Parliament, the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms, the London Eye and London Aquarium. Then take to the river again and get off at Tower Pier which is right next to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge Exhibition. Across the river, you could visit the London Bridge Experience or the London Dungeon for some good old-fashioned screaming in the dark - light relief after all the culture you've been absorbing. Then walk along the south bank to the Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, the Tate Modern and across the 'wobbly' bridge to St Paul's Cathedral. Finally, take the boat all the way to Greenwich, mainly for the fascinating journey through the history of London's East End. Once you get to Greenwich, there's plenty to see, including the Royal Observatory and the National Maritime Museum, which both have free admission. Greenwich ...
