London is one of those cities that has everything. You can shop in it's designer stores, sightsee, take a boat along the Thames and view the city from a great height on the London Eye. You can also visit some very significant historical sites; and that's what this review is about.

For any history fan, The Tower Of London is a must-see. With intelligent guides just waiting to grab you and tell you the history of the entire place, you can learn as you wander around this great historical site.

If you're planning on visiting the Tower of London, it's worth your while to pre-book a ticket. In high season, queuing can take over six hours. The entry fee is around £10, but it's well worth it if you want to see a place where history actually happened.

Avoid the tourist traps advertising a sightseeing trip around Pudding Lane, where the Great Fire of London started in 1666. Don't go: it literally is just a lane, and can be expensive just to see a house and a street name. Instead, take one of the hop-on-hop-off London tourist buses that includes Pudding Lane (the majority do). That way, you get to say you've seen it, but you get to see a lot of other things as well.

If history is your thing, then a trip to Hampton Court is unmissable. Although not as interactive as the Tower of London (and I've found the guides are slightly less knowledgable), Hampton Court is a great place to look around and experience Tudor history as it was. With a cafe and play area for kids, it's a great way to while away an afternoon.

A tip: if you are going to visit Hampton Court, instead of taking the Tube, get one of the regular boats that sail from Tower Gate up to Hampton Court. It's around three hours journey, but well worth it if you've got your sea legs.
