While I had a great time some people did not. In fact there were technical faults occuring in the duration of the scenic ride the glass capsule I was in took longer, much longer, than its estimated 25 mins to make the single revolution. I quite liked it thinking I was totally getting my money's worth but after being up there, hovering around the river Thames for about a near half hour, some parents seemed quite agitated with their agitated children...
What I liked best about this attraction is that it gives you more than a bird's eye view of the cty. In fact, we were higher than most of the birds flying around the vicinity - if you would like me to be more precise about how Bird's eye is bird's eye. Due to the fact that you are at a relatively higher altitude, you get to see London in its various perspectives as well. This gave the city the colour of personality. Part of London was shrouded in mist and fog as rain hit a certain area of town, near Westminster, the sun shone brightly behind Big Ben, lighting up the river and the bridge as the water caught and reflected the sunlight. you get a clear view of Buckinham Palace and the park and you just get a peak of St Pauls. The view of which is remniscent of those old cartoon productions where it ends with "This was a Thames Production..."
The sights were beautiful and I got to see three Rainbows in all. 2 on the north bank and 1 in the south. I would even go as far as to recommend this trip to the acrophobes. The eye moves really slowly so youget a good chance to take loads of pictures from all the different perspectives. You catch London in all its splendour, its moodiness, its commercialistic aspect and its historical side. The kids love it too as they get to see the people down below become smaller and smaller, where vehiles begin to resemble the play-cars they regularly play with.
This attraction is easily acessible by bus or by tubes. It is midpoint between the Waterloo tube stations and the Westminster tube stations. I would recommend taking the tube to Waterloo although some might prefer the more scenic walk taken from Westminster across the bridge. This is really up to you. Do not be frustrated when affronted with the formidable queues. Each capsule can take up to 25-30 passengers and the queues tend to move pretty quickly. However, do be prepared for the occassional technical fault and stay clam even if you are a claustrophobe and acrophobe, all at the same time.
