If you want to look at the city in a different perspective then the London eye is the best way to do it. This 135 metre high observation wheel is a symbol of 21st century and can be seen from many boroughs in London as it towers over the River Thames. Big Ben and other landmarks are dwarfed beside it.
The London eye is situated in the heart of London – adjacent to Westminster Bridge. There are three main stations you can use Waterloo, Westminster or Embankment. The nearest one out of the three would have to be Waterloo. Although in saying that the other two stations are only 5 minutes walk away. What ever you do don’t just turn up and expect a ride because it can be fully booked. To pre-book is the best and safest option.
There are several ways that you can book a flight on the London eye – You can call the 24-hour automated booking line. You will need your credit card details and you also need to input the time and day you wish to book. The other option is to book on-line at www.ba-londoneye.com. And if you find you have travelled all that way for nothing and you still want to go at a later date then you can always buy your ticket at County Hall. County Hall is where you can buy both advanced and same day tickets. Once you purchase your ticket you must arrive 30 minutes before your flight – it takes a bit of time to board because tickets have to be collected. You are also searched before being allowed to enter your glass pod. Adults pay £9.00 and children pay £5.00.
I’ve gone on the London eye twice – during the day and at night. The night ride was breathtaking – the entire city is lit up in bright lights and the Houses of Parliament looks like a palace. That too is lit up and the reflection of the building can be seen on the River Thames. A magnificent view of London is when the bright stars of the sky combining together with the bright lights of the city. The brilliantly engineered glass capsules rotates smoothly through 360 degrees providing exceptional views on all sides. The ride itself last 30 minutes.
The day ride gives a complete different picture of the city. The bright, clear blue sky giving definition to everything around you. Famous landmarks such as Big Ben, Houses of Parliament and also the River Thames provide spectacular and unique views across the city. As you look through the glass capsule which towers over everything you tend to notice every detail the city has to offer. The moving boats on the Thames, the flow of traffic on Westminster and Waterloo Bridge, even planes in the sky. You can hire binoculars to further enhance your journey. Something I should have done myself but only realized when it was too late. They can be hired in the County Hall as well as guides, souvenirs, refreshments, public toilets and gift shops can be found in the County Hall.
A unique experience that I would recommend to everybody. Just looking at the world’s largest and most awe-inspiring observation wheel is not the same as actually riding on the London eye. This beautifully designed 135 metre high structure provides spectacular views across the city. A visit to London is simply incomplete without a flight on the eye.

Advantages: views over London though Im sure there are better Disadvantages: Long queues, costs too much, poor visibility through the glass when its sunny
