Okay mi hearty's, i've been keeping a few secrets from you all. Although i make myself out to be a humble A level student (actually never made myself out to be anything as my profile on this is blank, but trust me, what you are about to discover may shock and astonish) I am the designer and builder of the Millenium Wheel. It's true. Therefore i feel i am the best person to give you an insight into it. (perfectly unbiased of course)
ACTUALLY I LIE. BUT i have been on it twice so will share these experiences with you. (although i probably could have designed it if i had got enough time on my hands as the geezer who did).
It was a grey day in october or something last year. I must admit i was quite nervous to go on bt i think that was because i ws scared of my friend's dad who kept asking me if i'd had breakfast. Actually not really.
Right right. Well we had our tickets pre booked so all we had to do was turn up to collect them and queue at the appropriate time. It all seemed a bit confusing really though. The ticket office is right at the end near the wheel but was marked council offices or sommat so i got a bit scared at that. Also the queue itself is split in half across a path so it's a bit weird to know where to join but these are mere details and probably due to my metaphorical blondeness. (hmmm)
The wheel itself is stunning. It can be seen through the buildings from afar and looks so great. I work at the library and it really annoys me though how the ladies there all say they don't like heights and could never stomach the ride becauseto be honest you don't really notice the height. This is a girl who can't put her foot on the second step of a ladder. You feel very very safe inside and it moves so slowly that you never feel in any danger at all. NONE!
It costs £9 for adults and £5 for children (about that anyway) there is a special rate for groups of ten or over so if you happen to be queuing for your tickets with a smiling bunch then why not try to form a bit of a group and cheat them for cheaper tickets??? I wonder why people don't just do that?? Seems so logical.
The first time up was stunning. Although it was a grey day the view was still beautiful. The look of london from the air was lovely. tip. take an A-Z up with you to help identify the landmarks.
The second time i went on was with a couple of friends visiting london from america. We hadn't prebooked the tickets and this was mid july so the only time we were able to get on was in the evening. However i feel this only enhanced the pleasure as we got the goldeny evening sun which was oh so gorgeous. The second time was just as good, if not better than the first. Although i'd seen it before it was still as amazing and the americans were well impressed (and trust me, a hard lot to please -woohaha, only joking john if you happen to read this) and the fact that they mistook a distant electricity pylon for the eifel tower only deepened their enjoyment! (gaaaad, how close to paarrriis arrre way from hayer?) - (random attempt at an american accent there). They were also impressed by the way the recorded lady's voice anouncer thing pronounced "capsule". Off the point oui??
Sooooooooo, basicly not much more to say other than it's really something i'd recommend doing. Don't be put off by the height of it, once you're up you won't want to come down. My mum went on and she's a scaredy cat and she absolutely loved it. Also, to enhance your enjoyment take an american.
The london eye is in london on the south side of the river, just look up and walk in the direction of the big wheel! You can't miss it!!
Enjoy.
Oh, another tip; don't look out of the end panes of glass, they're a bit bendy and distorty and make your eyes go weird!!
