A few weeks ago, I went with some friends to the London Eye. Living in London, we had waited a while before doing it, not at all convinced after the infamous start. At the end, it was worthwhile, a great day out.
I booked using the website, which is really easy and gives a lot of information, especially if you don’t know the area (I work close to Waterloo, so I passed on this).
It also tells you the story of The
London Eye, and almost everything you need to know about (5* for the website). You can even download easily all the info.
It was about 10 days before our chosen date, but all the morning slots were already full (hint: book well in advance). Not a problem anyway, an afternoon flight was perfect for us. We were just 9, so we couldn’t make use of the group discount (more than 10). Prices were £9 (£5 for children). There is also the possibility of renting a whole capsule, champagne evenings and loads more but we went for the single fare.
On arrival, there is a machine were you use your credit card to print the tickets: easy and fast: it took 2 minutes to do it. After that you go to the queue: it is recommended to go half an hour before your starting time but we actually spent 10 minutes queuing (and it was a Sunday). Around this place there is a shop where you can buy the usual souvenirs if this is what you like. They have also a book with all the pictures of what you will see and even binoculars to rent or buy.
Then you go into the wheel. It never stops so it is actually moving when you get into though very slow (there are especial facilities if you have a problem to get into).
The ‘flight ‘ last about 30 minutes and you never get to feel you are moving but only see how your vision is changing. At the top is like you were on a plane over London, with 360° windows.
Going up and down, you can look at the building near you until you leave them. We has an exceptional clear day with miles and miles to see.
Back to land it seemed really short and we wished to start all over again.
