The British Airways London Eye stands 135 metres above the London skyline and is situated on the South Bank of the River Thames next to Jubilee Gardens and County Hall. It is shaped like a giant bicycle wheel, each spoke leading to a glass pod which can hold 25 people. In total there are 32 glass pods, meaning the wheel can carry 800 passengers in one complete revolution. Each flight lasts for 30 minutes and allows passengers to hop on and off without the wheel having to stop. On a clear day you can see for 25 miles, offering great views of London and fantastic photo opportunities. At the bottom there is also a gift shop and café.
I think the London eye is one of the capitals best tourist attractions. I have been on it twice, once during the day and the second time at sunset, this was great and I would definitely recommend going later in the evening; less busy and you get magnificent views of the sunset over London. When we went we purchased the standard adult tickets for £15.00 each, this basically means you have to queue for a little while, but it is possible to buy a fast track ticket. These cost £25.00 per person and allow you to check-in just 15mins before you're allotted flight time, hence avoiding the queues, however I don't really think it is worth the extra money.
If anybody feels they would like to go and are worried because they are afraid of heights or the speed that the capsules move around the giant wheel then they need not worry. The London eye is perfectly safe, you don't even realise you are moving because it moves so slowly and before you know it you are almost at the top. It definitely is worth a visit.
