Heathrow is one on the worlds busiest airports. It is one of three or four major airports serving London. I consider Heathrow to be the best of them, and one of the better world airports. It is reasonably easy to get to, being just off the M25/M4. Public transport links are surprisingly good with London Underground serving all terminals and regional coach companies running services from every UK city pretty much hourly. Domestic flights are available on to the larger provincial airports.
Given the passenger volume Heathrow copes admirably. I have had no major parking or luggage issues at Heathrow. The airport is designed with passengers in mind. There is little to do in the airport if you are simply picking up or dropping off. Just grab a coffee and wait. The main shopping, eating and entertainment facilities are past passport control. This is so that international passengers travelling outside the European Community can take advantage of the tax free shopping. Prices are good and it is worth picking up booze, scent, electronic and designer goods. Chain restaurants such as McDonalds carry a guarantee that they will not charge exorbitant prices to their captive audience. The airport runs smoothly, bathrooms are clean and showers are available. Like other British airports industrial action is rarely a problem.
If you are flying into London I recommend paying a little extra to ensure that you go through Heathrow.
