Some of the best view in London... Advantages: A luxurious hotel in a fantastic position Disadvantages: very pricey ...when my grandparents were visiting London for their 80th birthdays. This was a lovely stay as my grandparents hadn't been to London in years and my grandfather was very keen to ride on the London eye whilst my grandmother was keen for me to find a hotel in which as she phrased it, 'that he will have to dig deep into his pockets for'. She was aiming for nothing less than luxury! Obviously there are a huge number of hotels available in central London ... ...two rooms, including breakfast and London eye tickets at a special offer of £ 280 per room per night which for this particular hotel is very good. Radisson SAS Portman Hotel Advantages: Location, Location, Location Disadvantages: Pricey-ish This weekend just gone me and the missus thought we'd go off on a short break in London. We chose the SAS Portman Hotel since its location was fab and the price fell within our budget of £300 for 2 nights. We had heard only good things about this one so we booked at Lastminute and paid £240 for a Superior room with breakka. Or breakfast, in English. If we had booked through the hotel's own website it would be nearer £300. Where is it, then? The ... ...tube station. It has easy access by tube, since Marble Arch, Bond Street and Oxford Circus are within walking distance, and many buses stop nearby. Even night buses! I don't need to tell you how good Oxford Street is for shopping.... but I will. All the major chains are there, plus its home to some of the biggest department stores in the country. Crowne Plaza St James - A Great London Hotel Happy to See You Advantages: Great Location. Excellent standard of service. Relatively good value for London. Disadvantages: No Pool. That's about it! ...the four to five star Crowne Plaza, and the three to four star Holiday Inn) and am a member of their award-winning “Priority Club” loyalty scheme, so I decided to use my accumulated points to redeem a “Reward Night” and stay for free. The hotel is on Buckingham Gate, with extensive frontage featuring an attractive red and white brick façade with decorative arches, reminiscent of Florentine architecture. I never thought I'd stay at The Hilton, but... Advantages: Virtually right next-door to Paddington Station. Clean. Classy. Disadvantages: Too bombastic, too expensive... The connection to Paris Hilton. ...seemingly endless brochures for other Hilton hotels and discovering that it cost £15 to use the internet got me pinching not only tea bags and body wash but coffee, sweeteners, milk and shower caps. Do I feel bad? No, because thinking of Paris Hilton and all her money is making me want to rip out the desk and stuff that in my case. I daren't look at the wine list or think about room service (available around the clock, but at what price?). Telephone ... ...for London hotels without the Hilton reputation and remember that you don't have to eat or drink here. True, it's over-done and ostentatious with its famous revolving door and very grand chandelier, but there can be no doubt that it's extremely convenient geographically. There are plenty of places to eat and drink. There's a post office the other side of the train station and a convenience store across the road. I was unfamiliar with the brand, but noted that they described their hotels as "truly stylish", "unique" and with a "comfortable environment with a high level of professional yet discreet service", suggesting that any one of their establishments would certainly fit the criterion of being memorable. The advertised offer was available for May outside of the aforementioned holidays only, ... ...London location - at the Crowne Plaza St James. The offer rate was valid for standard rooms only (rather than superior rooms or suites) and began at £60 per night including breakfast for up to two adults, varying up to around £100 per night for those hotels that had higher non-offer rates; we paid £95 a night for our room. To me, this still seems like quite a lot of money, but a quick search on google showed that staying in the nearest Holiday Inn ...
