I stayed at the London Mercure London City last weekend as part of a birthday treat from my boyfriend (I believe he booked it as part of a deal with rail tickets/show tickets/hotel, so am unable to tell you how much the hotel costs separately!). We stayed there for one night (a Saturday) after spending the day shopping in Oxford Street and the evening watching Phantom of the Opera at the London Palladium. Check in is not until after 2pm but you can drop off your luggage for free while you take in some of the sights. Lovely hotel in prime location in London. Perfect if you wish to be central to pretty much everything. Grt Russell street is light off the most hectic streets so acts as a bit of a retreat from the hussel and bussel. Wonderful service at the hotel and really try to look after their guests. Disadvantages: Rude staff, rooms in a state, out of date amenities, broken equipment.

I booked this room just as somewhere to put my head down for the night after a concert at the Royal Albert Hall. I wanted somewhere cheap(ish) in Kensington so I could walk it and not venture onto the tube in the forbidden hours.
