What a dump!

Advantages: Good location
Disadvantages: Everything else

I don't even know where to begin. I booked a twin and a triple room for two nights in this 'hotel' for a special occasion we were attending in London. for a bargain price of £390. The location for our event was perfect but otherwise I was utterly disappointed with this hotel. Upon arrival to our rooms one bed had chewing gum stuck to it, the other had burn marks on it, the shower was hanging off the wall and even if it was attched only people less ...
...were two towels for three people, there was other peoples belongings down the side of the desk and overall we were not happy. A similar situation occured with our twin room, lack of towels, no kettle, dirty bed sheets etc. We rang reception who assured us they would send up towels asap and that we could speak to the manager later that eveing regarding our concerns. We then proceeded to the self service restaurant. There was 8+ waiting staff standing ...

President Russell Square - oficially the worst I've ever had

Advantages: Location - but I'd rather be in a better hotel further out
Disadvantages: Pretty much everything else!

This hotel is way below the standard of any I have ever stayed in. Having arrived in Russell Square by tube we found the hotel without too many problems, although it feels a little as though it is up a back street. First impressions were not good - the whole place looked as though it were in a time warp. We went to reception to check in and were given a room key and sent up to the room, only to get there and find it was still being prepared then ...
...on the walls - inexplicable! We went to sit in the reception area where our impression of the hotel only got worse. The reception staff were Ok, nice but seemingly clueless in allocating rooms which are not ready. The common areas were awful, very tatty with dirty sofas which may have been new once in the 1960s. By this point I actually wasn't looking forward to getting into the room. Eventually after waiting around half an hour for someone to inform ...

The Palace In Picadilly

Advantages: Big, Centered, Somewhat Cheap
Disadvantages: Not The best Rooms In The World

...year, I went to the Regent Palace in Picadilly for a short 3-day weekend trip to London, as a break from work. Centered just off Picadilly Circus, which is one of the most publicised places in London, it has good access to the London Underground, a whole range of resteraunts and is just off Piccadilly's Chinatown. Starting with the reception. As you go in, it has a shop to your right and a cafe to your left. The Regent Palace offers an Internet ...
...However, the staff in the Regent Palace aren't the best in the World either. A lot of them are foreign, and don't get me wrong, they do their job as well as the next person, but their accents are a bit hard to understand, but otherwise, they are a friendly bunch. The building is situated quite remotely, and can be hard to find if you don't know the area, but being less than 5 minutes from the Picadilly-line tube station, it's not really a bother. ...

Home Base for Traveling with a Grandchild

Advantages: Comfortable, clean, pleasant ambience, elbow room
Disadvantages: Lacks many traditional hotel facilities and services, such as room service and baggage storage

...trip planner, I selected the New Linden, a small hotel straddling Bayswater and Notting Hill, not far north of Kensington Gardens. The location was handy for buses and the tube, easily facilitating our forays around and about London. In the end, that choice came down to space and price. I wanted a space that would provide both our grandson and us with an opportunity for privacy, and I wanted to do so without paying the usual London prices for a ...
...of our quad. The New Linden is listed on various hotel sites at 2, 3, or 4 stars. Take your pick. I venture to approximate 3 stars based on its lack of urban hotel facilities. In the final analysis, however, it’s the experience that counts. Based on our experience, we would happily return to this charming hotel. It combines convenience with value for money, and we left with happy memories. Who could ask for more? ...

Ibis Euston - good deals to be had

Advantages: Good location, not too noisy, good value if on offer
Disadvantages: Slow check in

...for a double room at Ibis Euston on a Saturday in late November. The standard rate advertised outside the hotel is £129 so this represents a good saving. Although we were traveling into and out of Kings Cross we were happy enough to stay at Euston as the hotel is right beside Euston mainline and tube stations and only a ten minute walk from Kings Cross/St. Pancras. There’s a handy little short cut from the main station concourse onto Melton Street ...
...to carry. Ibis Euston compares favourably with other branches of the chain I have stayed in. The rooms are basic but comfortable and I was impressed with the standard of cleanliness. It’s a useful location for several mainline train stations and only a twenty minute walk from the west end if you prefer not to use the bus or underground. There’s very little in the way of additional facilities but chances are if you’re a tourist in London you aren’t ...
