Save your money
Review of Eden Plaza Hotel, London by Jinty1970

Advantages: Great location but no other adventages
Disadvantages: everything

...stayed one night in the Eden Plaza and that was enough. The hotel is on a busy main road and the secondry glazing was broken off it's runners so I heard every car and lorry all night. The shower room was old and dirty looking. In fact I skipped a shower as I was not going to step on the floor with bare feet. The walls were dirty and scuffed and the so called satalite TV had two news channels and nothing else. The TV had wires hanging out of it and ... Read review

Just down the road from the real Elizabeth's house
Review of Elizabeth Hotel, London by Rogerbyname

Advantages: Location, comfort, breakfast
Disadvantages: Lack of chic, American tourists

This is a hotel full of traditional English charm. It has military references, allusions to Royalty and a kind of generic Englishness about it that is not entirely fake. It is very conveniently locatednear Victoria, so access to many parts of London are within walking distance, and let's be honest, this is not the worst part of London by any means. The character of the hotel seems to attract Americans in their droves who must revel in the quaintness ...
...recently whilst visiting the Chelsea Flower Show, which was very close by. I took the liberty of inspecting their room, which had a nice view of the courtyard below. It was very comfortably furnished, included a safe, en-suite bathroom, tv... Apparently their breakfast was very substantial and negated the need for lunch. The hotel has a very user-friendly booking system on the net and an informative website. My booking cost 110 pounds for one night ... Read review

PERFECT SETTING FOR THE COLNEY FOX
Review of Innkeeper's Lodge, St Albans by RICHADA

Advantages: Location. Pub Ambiance. Parking. Breakfast.
Disadvantages: Dirty En-Suite. Old Bed. Tatty Room.

WHY DID WE BOOK THE INNKEEPER'S LODGE St ALBANS? A.K.A THE COLNEY FOX VINTAGE INN A slightly complicated set of factors this time - indeed this is the first hotel in which we have stayed south of Watford Gap in very many years. Living in Brighton and attending the Company Car in Action event at Millbrook, just south of Bedford, we usually set out from home at 5.30am in order to be there for gates open at 9.00am. I owed myself a couple of days off ...
...envelope, following our last, disastrous, Innkeeper's Lodge experience in Litchfield before Christmas, we had a complimentary "stay one night free" voucher. Looking at the list of available Inkeeper's Lodges in the area, the choice was not a difficult one, a Toby Inn at Bedford, or the much more historic and attractive looking Vintage Inn at London Colney, just to the south of St Abans. 'Oh dear' I hear you cry; 'wasn't that Lodge at Lichfield ... Read review

Euston Ibis - a disappointment!
Review of Ibis London Euston, London by andycrowley

Advantages: Cleanliness; pleasant main hotel and rooms.
Disadvantages: Apalling catering and service arrangements.

We booked the London Euston Ibis for a one night stay at the end of May. We had previously stayed at many Ibis hotels in several countries on mainland Europe and had always been delighted with our experiences. However, our first stay in a UK Ibis was a different experience altogether. The hotel itself and our room could not be faulted. However, where this hotel fails miserably is in its standards of service and its catering arrangements. Despite ...
...one pre packed portion of English Cheddar! The "English" breakfast option was an undescribable egg-like concoction and a platter of extremely greasy and foul tasting sausages! Sorry London Euston Ibis but you were a huge disappointment and in our experience, you do no favours to the Ibis brand overall. ... Read review

ALEVIZIS GREAT LUNCH STOP
Review of ALEVIZIS TAVERNA, AGHIOS GORDIOS, CORFU by poshtroika

Advantages: Large Brandies
Disadvantages: A few rocks block the view.

Alevizis is located at the South End of the Beach at Aghios Gordios, just before you reach the very large Aghios Gordios Hotel that stands above the end of the beach. I think this was the best of the Tavernas that front the beach for a lunchtime break from the sun. This is based on the quality of what we had and also the price. We lunched there on several days, it is a simple place with about 20 tables, 15 on the terrace with a further few inside ...
...Housewine very acceptable. Brandies tend to come in large measures. The star of the place is the very friendly son of the owners, he delights in encouraging the learning of Greek, but does tend to concentrate on the Ladies. Meals we had. Stuffed Aubergine. Calamari (very light batter) and very fresh (not frozen) Mousaka (comes in a clay pot) Fried Cod in again a light batter. Sardines, about a doz freshly grilled sardines, very well presented. ...
