Excellent quality budget choice
Review of Express By Holiday Inn London Royal Docks - Docklands, London by
C.Laslett
Advantages: Excellent Value, Close Proximity to London Underground Station
Disadvantages: None
When looking for a low-budget hotel close to the city for a group of 5 family members, we chose to stay at the Royal Docklands HI Express. This hotel was much better than expected and represents excellent value for money, with rooms starting from just £50, including breakfast. Rooms can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children so £50 B&B for a family of 4 is amazing value! For best rates, try to book online (www.holidayinn.co.uk) and at least 14 ... ...advertised at £160 so booking upfront is most definately essential. ba
The hotel is easy to get to, much easier than I first thought it would be. Canning Town Tube Station (Jubilee Line / DLR) is a short couple of minutes walk across the road - you can actually see the station from the hotel entrance. Services to central London take around 20 minutes and cost no more than £3 for adults, although anyone planning to travel around the city a lot should ...

Excellent Curry - in a Pub
Review of The Tiffin Room at the India Arms, Southsea, Hampshire by
denella
Advantages: Excellent food
Disadvantages: Erratic service
...back to Southsea in 1999, the India Arms was about two minutes' walk from where I lived but I never visited it because my sons went there and it definitely had a reputation as a student pub. On moving back to Southsea again in 2007, I was surprised to learn that the largest room in the pub had been converted into an Indian restaurant called the Tiffin Room which was fast earning a reputation for serving the best Indian cuisine in either Portsmouth ... ...share them amongst yourselves. By the time of my first visit in late summer, however, all this had changed and the menu was organised in the traditional format of starter, main course and dessert. I remember choosing Old Madras lamb chops, unusual for me as I am not a great fan of red meat, but they were absolutely delicious.
My second visit to the Tiffin Room came eight months later, at 7.30 one Saturday evening. My son and his partner had been ...

The grand-ish Strand
Review of The Strand Palace Hotel, London by
watkins11
Advantages: location, location, location!
Disadvantages: Work in progress
...had might as well make the most of our adventure and booked a show and stay theatre trip. After reading up on the choice of hotels, we opted for the 3 star Strand Palace as it a) looked pretty swanky from the photo, b) was only 5 minutes from the Adelphi where Joseph was playing c) was cheaper than some of the others AND included breakfast! Bargain. Our cab driver was extremely friendly, commended us on our hotel choice and quickly pointed out how ... ...cuts through the streets to get to the Thames bank quickly - oh yes, we had also booked a trip on the London Eye - which would save us a fortune in taxi fare. We were dropped off right at the huge glass frontage of the building and by this stage I was rather pleased with our choice of hotel.
Lobby
After climbing a few steps we found ourselves in a not so large lobby, which contained the concierge desk, 3 elevators with classy gold doors, ...

Not bad, but not brilliant either
Review of Queens Hotel, London by
C-J-C
Advantages: Cheap, reasonably convienient
Disadvantages: slightly worn out, basic
I recently had a trip to London with a friend, and since I have been in hotels in and around London before, I was tasked with finding us accommodation for 3 nights. I knew that we would be using the hotel for bed and breakfast only, so wasn't going to waste our money on anything too fancy. After a little searching I found this hotel on a site at just over £30 a night, coming to £108 in total per person. This was for double, en-suit rooms with breakfast ... ...pretty much right. The hotel is far from perfect, but then I've thought the same about many hotels I've paid a fair bit more to stop in, including 4 star ones. The rooms were spacious, as expected for doubles, but basic, with a TV (5 channels only, and not a great signal despite being right near the Crystal Palace transmitter), desk, tea and coffee making facilities and a bathroom with bath and shower. They have seen better days, the carpets were ...

London: Lord Kensington Hotel: Paper Thin Walls!
Review of Lord Kensington Hotel, London by
JMBox777
Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: Paper thin partition\stud walls
I have to say that I would not recommend this B&B to anyone (unless you pay no more than £25 per night) This B&B is reasonably decorated (3/5), adequately clean (3/5) (the second room I got I found that the bathroom floor was a bit sticky!), the staff are friendly (Score: 3/5) but unfortunately the sound proofing (Score: 0/5) between rooms is terrible - I could hear lots of "noises" coming through from the adjoining room. This also applies to the ... ...are in your room and also there is a bit of a draft too. (The cars drive round that street all night long!) Also, you can smell smoke, as it funnelled in because the other occupants were smoking out of the bedroom window.
Okay, I don't expect the following to get posted, but it is dam funny: I suppose it didn't help that the couple in the room next door decided go "hell for leather" from about 12 midnight, and because the walls are so thin, it is ...
