The Radisson Edwardian New Providence Wharf Advantages: Stunning hotel, big rooms, security is good Disadvantages: Room Service and Reception staff don't care! The Radisson Edwardian New Providence Wharf is a luxury 4 star hotel. I stayed in this hotel just 2 weeks ago for one night at a price of £150 - I had this on Last Minute.Com as a Top Secret Hotel. I chose this hotel due to the close location to the O2. The location is spot on with fantastic views, little did I know that between the hotel and the O2 is a river! This meant 2 tube rides to get to the O2. The hotel is very glamouros, clean and has ... ...at 1:55 and they wouldn't allow me to check in - bit mean I thought! Check out is at 11am. They did take my luggage from me while I sat in reception until 2pm. The rooms are very modern with a bathroom that has a shower and a nice deep bath. You have a flat screen tv, access to the internet (you have to pay) and a CD player, alarm and lovely soft lighting. Academy Town House Hotel, Gower St, London Advantages: Beautifully refurbished Victorian hotel Disadvantages: Can't think of any! ...other attractions. Quality furnishings lavish the property throughout, as you wind your way around the narrow Victorian corridors to either your room, or one of the small atrium styled lounge areas, leading onto a courtyard with tables and chairs. Furnishings are traditional, tasteful and very good quality. Many bedrooms have had authentic fireplaces uncovered during restoration, which add a real centrepiece to many rooms, and beds look sumptuous ... ...however had I paid for the hotel myself, I would not have been disappointed. Service was excellent and there were many discreet touches that really set this place apart. I particularly liked that they would turn down your bed, place slippers at the side and turn the radio on whilst you were out of an evening - a real welcome to come back to. Whilst located on a busy road, noise was not a problem. The Thistle Bloomsbury Park, An Experience Advantages: Location, location, cheap deals oh and did I mention location Disadvantages: Everything else The Bloomsbury Park is a Thistle Associate Hotel and so I expected a high standard having stayed in one of the groups hotels before. The hotel is just off Russell Square with easy Tube access via Holburn or Russell Square stations. The room I had the mispleasure of staying in was on the 2nd floor toward the rear of the hotel, dark and dingy was the best attribute the room had to offer as this hid the multitude of poor maintainence and bad decor. ... ...very watery tomatoes. Overall, If you want a cheap and not so cheerful hotel to use as a base for exploring the capital then the Thistle Bloomsbury Park Hotel may be for you. The location was handy for buses and the tube, easily facilitating our forays around and about London. In the end, that choice came down to space and price. The New Linden is listed on various hotel sites at 2, 3, or 4 stars. Take your pick. I venture to approximate 3 stars based on its lack of urban hotel facilities. In the final analysis, however, it’s the experience that counts. Based on our experience, we would happily return to this charming hotel. Ibis Euston - good deals to be had Advantages: Good location, not too noisy, good value if on offer Disadvantages: Slow check in ...for a double room at Ibis Euston on a Saturday in late November. The standard rate advertised outside the hotel is £129 so this represents a good saving. Although we were traveling into and out of Kings Cross we were happy enough to stay at Euston as the hotel is right beside Euston mainline and tube stations and only a ten minute walk from Kings Cross/St. Pancras. There’s a handy little short cut from the main station concourse onto Melton Street ... ...to carry. Ibis Euston compares favourably with other branches of the chain I have stayed in. The rooms are basic but comfortable and I was impressed with the standard of cleanliness. It’s a useful location for several mainline train stations and only a twenty minute walk from the west end if you prefer not to use the bus or underground.
