A sanctuary in the heart of London Advantages: Very central, well connected, good value, comfortable Disadvantages: none to speak of other than the rooms could be bigger ...London for work or play. The West End theatres are literally round the corner along with all the other central London famous sights. Needless to say transport links are good be it by bus, train, underground, foot or bicycle. Of course driving is not recommended! I found the concierge helpful and polite. The entrance seemed quite grand to me and you immediately felt transported out of the hussle and bussle and into a sanctuary of tranquility. The ... Top Dollar, bottom drawer Advantages: Location Disadvantages: Value, quality, customer service Top price, bottom drawer At £130, it was top price (okay it was pre-Christmas), but for a tiny double room with remnants of a leak from above (or was it streaks of nicotine from its previous smoking room days?). Only very slim people should share that room! The en-suite bathroom was tucked into the eaves and surely wasn't intended for use by anyone over 5'2" . If that was a "superior" room, I'd hate to see anything less. After a night out, the ... ...baguettes, no food was available after midnight. The day was kick-started at 8am by an over eager maid and again at 8.30am, shortly followed by probably the worst hotel breakfast I've ever not eaten. The surly receptionist wasn't in the slightest bit interested in our disapointment and as we took a cab to the recommended car park (Queens), I reflected on the shame that visitors to our great capital get rinsed like this every day. Express By Holiday Inn London Stratford London Advantages: Reasonable price, friendly staff, clean public areas and rooms Disadvantages: Basic room, continental breakfast, on main road ...hotels, in keeping with the Express brand. However, the twin room I received was extremely clean and fresh. A small open wardrobe was provided along with tea and coffee facilities. There was a television which had a generous choice of channels. It is possible to "rent" films through the television and the cost of the rental is very reasonable - £3.00 buys you access to a film channel for 24 hours and each film channel runs two films back to back ... ...access was available in the room. The room did overlook the main road, and I could hear the cars outside slightly but not enough to disturb my sleep. However, i did have a view of Canary Wharf which was great at night. The bathroom was of a fair size and again was very clean. Just about on the right track Advantages: Easy to get to, on-site and nearby parking, close to Euston station, high speed internet access in room Disadvantages: Expensive parking, very small rooms, no Gordons Gin in the bar ...they had gone. The Thistle Euston was found on our behalf, at a rather steep £120 B&B it was this or nothing. Now I've stayed in a few Thistle hotels, and their quality does seem to vary somewhat, so it was with some trepidation that I set off on the 200 mile journey. Great base for a stay in the west end Advantages: great location. deliciouus breakfast, polite staff, breakfast in room option Disadvantages: Basic room, plain decor ...break in London. The Rathbone is in a great location in central London in the heart of the West End so is ideal if you are planning on shopping on Oxford Street, Regent Street, New Bond Street or Covent Garden. It is also near the restaurants and bars in Soho as well as seveal theatres. It's less than 5 minutes walk from either Tottenham Court Road or Oxford Street tubes so really easy to get about. The hotel has a grand entrance with large chandaliers ... ...polite and respectful. Our room was basic, a medium size with a very basic bathroom with bath with shower over. The was air conditioning in the room but this was a little noisy. The breakfast could either be eaten in the restaurant or you could choose to have a continental style breakfast in your room by ticking off the items you wanted on a door hanger and placing it outside your dor the night before.
