Disadvantages: Temperature control in room (we were very hot), drinks prices in bar a little steep even for central London.

The Rathbone is in a great location in central London in the heart of the West End so is ideal if you are planning on shopping on Oxford Street, Regent Street, New Bond Street or Covent Garden. It is also near the restaurants and bars in Soho as well as seveal theatres. It's less than 5 minutes walk from either Tottenham Court Road or Oxford Street tubes so really easy to get about. I stayed at the London Mercure London City last weekend as part of a birthday treat from my boyfriend (I believe he booked it as part of a deal with rail tickets/show tickets/hotel, so am unable to tell you how much the hotel costs separately!). I have just stayed there 14/09-16/09 for 2 nights on a weekend break through Superbreak and it deserves its 2 star rating. The room rate was starting from £160.00, I don't think that was anywhere close to what the price should be. As tends to be the case the entrance and front of house is very nice and does have a luxourious feel to it. Nice couches and chairs, welcoming smiles from staff, lots of mirrors, new carpets. The neagtives I'll start with a small one, a Snickers wrapper was left on a landing for the two days we were there, I would have picked it up but wanted to see if any staff did, they didn't, it was in a very obvious place. The walls seemed to have been papered recently and they have made quiet a good job, but all the corridor cupboard doors have a leatherette cladding, the ones on our corridor were very obviously peeling ...
