I've staid at the Britannia for more than 50 nights over the past few years. The one thing I learned from this is that, actually, the other reviewers of this hotel were not having bad luck. Advantages: Comfortable, clean, pleasant ambience, elbow room
Disadvantages: Lacks many traditional hotel facilities and services, such as room service and baggage storage

The Inn and I

Advantages: centrally located, reasonable room rates
Disadvantages: no parking, as it's on a main road some noise is possible

Advantages: Cheap, reasonably clean
Disadvantages: Facilities not as available as advertised, expensive food, staff are cold

A comfortable night or two.

Advantages: Clean, well sized rooms, brilliant location.
Disadvantages: Not a brilliant breakfast and lots of stairs.
