Olde Fashioned Hospitality?
Review of Russell Hotel, London by helencbradshaw

Advantages: Location, good special deal room rate, large rooms, high standard accommodation, guest services
Disadvantages: F&B may be a little expensive

...situated along one side of Russell Square in the Bloomsbury area of the city was to be my home for my recent short break in the capital. Being in the hotel industry myself, I don't like to pay a fortune for hotels and I booked the hotel about two months prior to our arrival and managed to secure two double/twin rooms at the rate of £85 per room per night, through a contact. However this special rate was also available on the website, and so is achievable. ...
...block at the side of Russell Square and is one of the most imposing hotels within this location. This purpose built building dates from around the turn of the 20th century and its architecture is renaissance in style, with stunning terracotta brickwork. The hotel is large in size, with almost 400 rooms, and many overlook the square, including ours. The original floor to ceiling window frames do open out onto a small balcony area, if you want to absorb ... Read review

Poor service, tacky interior, otherwise OK...
Review of Britannia International Hotel, London by Oz68

Advantages: Convenient location for Canary Wharf visitors
Disadvantages: Poor service, bizarre interior styling

I've staid at the Britannia for more than 50 nights over the past few years. The one thing I learned from this is that, actually, the other reviewers of this hotel were not having bad luck. The hotel is spectacularly tacky (think what would happen if you give a big interior design budget to East Enders' Peggy Mitchell) and service is consistently worse than any similarly-priced London hotel. The rooms themselves are quite OK, if you don't mind the ...
...what makes this hotel truly unique is not the interior design but the blend of 'don't care/whatever' attitude of staff and the fact that their booking system is based on chaos theory. It is very common to spend 10-15 minutes (which is long, in real time) waiting to check in. You have a 15% chance of your booking not being found (which is a big risk, in real life) and a near-100% chance of seeing some other guests being driven to desperation because ... Read review

Copthorne Tara - The Customer
Review of Copthorne Tara Hotel, London by sianciao

Advantages: Good location, access to tube station, nice/well looked after hotel
Disadvantages: Some of the staff/service is not up to scratch

Getting There: -------------------- The Copthorne Tara Hotel is conveniently situated a short walk (about 5 minutes) from the Kensington High Street Tube station. This means that getting to and from the hotel is quick and convenient. The Kensington High Street Tube Station is part of both the District and Circle Lines, meaning that you can get to many major and convenient locations by jumping on the tube there (including Kings Cross and Victoria ...
...that while staying at the Copthorne Tara, the district and circle lines are running as unfortunately during my stay they were under maintenance for 2 of the days. In this case the nearest station was Notting Hill, which was around a 30 minute walk away (not good when wearing high heals to go to the theatre). In terms of proximity to the west end theatres, the Copthorne Tara is about a 30 minute (around £15) taxi drive. When getting the tube it took ... Read review

Melia White - Certainly deserves 4*
Review of Melia White House, London by claire.wizzbiz

Advantages: luxurious, clean, bright
Disadvantages: expensive meals, small room

I stayed here for two nights over a weekend spent visiting friends who live in north london. We booked through lastminute.com, and like other reviewers, got an excellent deal of £89 per night B&B. We arrived via tube and found the hotel easily a short walk away. I was really pleased walking into the lobby. It was clean, bright, fresh flowers everywhere - i thought it was beautiful However, having read another reviewer's comments on arriving after ...
...space, i can understand what they meant. I thought it was fantastic, though, arriving with plenty of time to admire the space. The receptionist was very formal, but efficient. There was no banter or smiles! The lifts themselves are an experience, and my boyfriend loved them - basically you put your floor number onto a dial which is in front of the lift, the lift arrives and takes you to your destination. I am sure kids and gadget-loving people ... Read review

Hilton Olympia ends up on Medallists' Podium
Review of Hilton London Olympia, London by andymcf

Advantages: Comfortable, friendly and pretty stylish London hotel
Disadvantages: The movie channel didn't work properly. Minor criticism.

Hilton fan, though I may well appear to be, it was Priceline who, at a very reasonable £45 for the night, selected this hotel for me. Rarely, I was away-from-home-alone at a Meet-and-Greet in London and I'd booked the stay well in advance. The price was exceptional value, and being an Hhonors Gold VIP, I was pleased to have been allocated to the Hilton, even if its location was not entirely convenient for my proposed meeting on the other side of ...
...buses and tubes (ie underground trains), so what the hell? I was a very happy bunny. And then Al Q'aeda (it's alleged) decided to start bombing London - specialising, in a somewhat incompetent fashion, in tubes and buses. I thought long and hard. Do I avoid the terror and stay at home, or do I make a statement and go to meet what turned out to be a group of really nice people who'd congregated from miles and miles away? At the eleventh hour, I decided ... Read review
