Use it as a base but eat elsewhere Advantages: Good standard Holiday Inn Disadvantages: Food not great, distance from a train - reliance on buses. ...typical of that of most holiday inns i have stayed. The bed was comfortable, there was a desk, iron and ironing board and i tv with standard channels and some satelite channels - mainly news. The bar - decent range of drinks - the house white wine was pretty good and only £3.50 which i thought was fair considering it was a hotel bar in London. Food - first night we ate at the bar. I had a margerita pizza. What can i say.... well it came it still ... ...but on this occasion i let the staff know and they couldn't do enough for me. The pizza went back and came out 5-6 mins later piping hot. They also brought me another glass of wine free of charge as way of an apology. I'm easily pleased!!! There is another place to eat in the hotel - the main restuarant area where most meals are served buffet style. The food here was actually pretty good, although not sensational. Great value hotel Advantages: Handy location, good rooms Disadvantages: Not really any I stayed at this Greenwich hotel this Christmas and was drawn to it because of its cheap price for quality rooms. I booked through hoteldirect.co.uk. The location of the hotel is excellent. Although the area around it is not very aesthetically pleasing, it is close to the O2 arena and a local retail park which was great for my holiday, yet it is far away from central London so not busy.The hotel is near the Blackwell Tunnel and I was anxious about ... ...was not the case. From the hotel you can see many great things such as the O2 and Canary Wharf, which produced some great shots on my camera. The staff were helpful but not intrusive on my visit. The rooms themselves are probably described as being quite basic. However I am used to traveling abroad to countries like Greece, so I thought the room was great. No holiday for me at Holiday Inn Advantages: Conveniently located, well priced, spotless and comfortable Disadvantages: No proper restaurant Holiday Inn - Wandsworth. 1 Trevor has upgraded. Those who know the scrimping and penny-watching that has been part of my character from Scottish schooldays, will know that my regular trips to London all target the cheapest accomodation available. Well, not quite the cheapest - I try to ensure they are flealess, clean and with a bed that accomodates my full frame. Usually Travelodge gets the vote, and I have ladled the praise to them in the past ... ...beat the local Travelodge on price, believe it or not. Well, it was a bit more complicated than that. Members of David Lloyd leisure clubs have (or had until the buy-out) access to members' benefits with other organisations. I don't usually pursue these as you are offered 10% discount, say, off of a full price - which is discounted by 20% everywhere else.! Poor service, tacky interior, otherwise OK... Advantages: Convenient location for Canary Wharf visitors Disadvantages: Poor service, bizarre interior styling I've staid at the Britannia for more than 50 nights over the past few years. The one thing I learned from this is that, actually, the other reviewers of this hotel were not having bad luck. The hotel is spectacularly tacky (think what would happen if you give a big interior design budget to East Enders' Peggy Mitchell) and service is consistently worse than any similarly-priced London hotel. The rooms themselves are quite OK, if you don't mind the ... ...what makes this hotel truly unique is not the interior design but the blend of 'don't care/whatever' attitude of staff and the fact that their booking system is based on chaos theory. It is very common to spend 10-15 minutes (which is long, in real time) waiting to check in. You have a 15% chance of your booking not being found (which is a big risk, in real life) and a near-100% chance of seeing some other guests being driven to desperation because ... Britannia Hampstead Hotel, London Advantages: none! Disadvantages: everything! I stayed at this hotel when I went to London for a two night stay, it was a travel package which included coach travel down, we didn't know where we were staying until we got there and believe me if I had have known I wouldn't have gone. The outside looked okay and the lobby didn't look too bad either but then we went in our room, it was very dark and dull and very dated, it was fairly clean though. The toilet and shower were seperate the toilet ... ...were cracked and looked as if they had been stuck on by somone who didn't know what they were doing. There was no bath just a stand alone shower squashed into a cupboard that was hidden with a door.
