This weekend just gone me and the missus thought we'd go off on a short break in London. We chose the SAS Portman Hotel since its location was fab and the price fell within our budget of £300 for 2 nights. We had heard only good things about this one so we booked at Lastminute and paid £240 for a Superior room with breakka. Or breakfast, in English. ...tube station. It has easy access by tube, since Marble Arch, Bond Street and Oxford Circus are within walking distance, and many buses stop nearby. Even night buses! The offer rate was valid for standard rooms only (rather than superior rooms or suites) and began at £60 per night including breakfast for up to two adults, varying up to around £100 per night for those hotels that had higher non-offer rates; we paid £95 a night for our room. I caught a taxi from the train station and the first thing that I noticed when getting there was that the part of Belvedere Road in which the hotel is situated has barriers at either end so only traffic that has a reason for being there is allowed in...this makes the front of the hotel quieter than most places in London. Check in is not until after 2pm but you can drop off your luggage for free while you take in some of the sights. Disadvantages: Can be too quiet if you are in London for the "night life"

Lovely hotel in prime location in London. Perfect if you wish to be central to pretty much everything. Grt Russell street is light off the most hectic streets so acts as a bit of a retreat from the hussel and bussel. Wonderful service at the hotel and really try to look after their guests.
