Disadvantages: couldn't fault it

I stayed at this Hotel last year, and have been to London 4 times since. Ive stayed in over 10 hotels in the capital and can honestly say this has been my favourite hotel. The views over Hyde Park were gorgeous and gave a lovely view of the london eye, and the flight path. The rooms were a good size and layed out well. It wasn't unclean at all. ...the local tube station, and close to notting hill and shops. It was central to oxford street and all that London has to offer, without been slap bang in the middle. I have just arrived back from a long weekend in London and I was not impressed with this hotel. The pictures depict this hotel as being very grand, but I'm not entirely sure these pictures are of this hotel. Disadvantages: renovation work is being carried out at the moment, and although it definitely needs it, I wasn't informed of this at the time of my booking. ...change rooms. The second room was much bigger and we had a lovely view of the air conditioning system, which ironically, didn't actually work in our room. With the mini-bar not being restocked daily and the terrible room service menu - there was a very limited choice available - take my advice and stock up on drinks and food. The Royal Lancaster is a Hotel that overlooks Hyde Park and is a common venue for conferences and the like. At a basic rate of about £250 a night it certainly can only be the conference centre for very major players in the business world. I recently had the displeasure of staying there and I am only glad that someone else footed the bill. I had a basic room with twin beds and a television, a small bathroom and a minibar. There were no tea or coffee ...
...I thought never mind, after a few bevies I would be OK, but even several drinks could not numb the discomfort of both the beds in my room, and the shower was cool at 3 am when I finally staggered into my room. The meal we had as a conference meal was pleasant enough but breakfast was a little stingy in portions and the fresh fruit had seen better days. Advantages: Soft beds, high-speed internet, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Noisy at weekends, below average housekeeping

The Cumberland is easy to find, the staff are helpful, and the rooms are clean. However there are a couple of faults. Upon arriving at the hotel, I was told that my room had been double booked, but they decided to grant me a free upgrade. All good except that my room was now above the hotels nightclub, and I had to put up with booming music until 3am. That said, I did manage to have a wonderful sleep after it finished, and awoke feeling refreshed. ...
...want to get up! The other thing I wasn't too impressed with was the bathroom. There were several cracks in the plaster, one of the lightbulbs had blown and the complimentary shampoo bottle was half empty. My advice? At reception, ask what the noise levels are like in the room and don't accept it until you have inspected it. ... Read review
