Putting on The Ritz
Advantages: Style, excellent service, great location Disadvantages: Too many tourists
The only problem with The Ritz is that being such a landmark it does attract a bizarre mixture of people.
The Rivoli Bar is perhaps a bit kitsch for some, decorated with much gold and glitz, but The Palm Court and adjoining lounge bar are sophistication in themselves and ideal places to take elderly relatives to tea or for drinks with clients/friends.
The restaurant offers the best of British in terms of a traditional menu and the room is spectacular. ... ...Rooms are excellent and of the high standard one would expect of a hotel of this calibre. Prices are high, but for that you do get the best.
The service is impeccable, the staff excellent and their attentive yet discrete manner is most impressive.
Conveniently situated on Piccadilly, the location is perfect for those looking for somewhere close to theatreland, the Royal Parks, shopping on Bond Street and Jermyn Street, etc. etc.
If you want to ...

Swissotel - a good position for holidays and business
Advantages: great position, good views, ladies wing Disadvantages: poor call staff, sometimes takes a while to get served drinks in busy period
a lovely hotel, this hotel is actually very different from others i have been too. it is in a great position to easily reach the city and the Westend and also has great views over the river if you are on that side. It has a lovely purple bar making it modern but also incredibly comfy, the outdoor area is small but very pretty and does get the sun in the afternoon easily making you forget you are in london. the standard rooms arnt particulary large ... ...are to a very high standard with gorgeous bathrooms and very well looked after. I think their brilliant idea for this year however is that they have introduced a ladies only wing - the rooms have full length mirrors, steam free mirrors in the bathrooms and other such things to make you feel more welcome. i think they have put a lot of though in to this and it make it a very good choice particularly for a lady business traveller. the one problem we ...

Savoy Grandure with Some Like It Hot Feel
Advantages: Bend over backwards service Disadvantages: None
Having been to The Savoy a number of times for business meetings it was always a hotel I have wanted to stay at not only for the history but also for it's location. However the cost has always been a little hard to bear. You can imagine my pleasure when idly scanning through hotels.com and seeing the hotel's latest offer of £99 pppn including continental breakfast.
I booked and treated my wife for a 2 night surprise visit. Apparently the cheaper ... ...need a refurbishment? Probably is the answer but it isn't tatty. More like faded but still impressive.
From the moment we walked through the doors we were made very welcome indeed. The doormen were attentive and eager to help. The reception staff were efficient and courteous (showed us to our room, happens infrequently these days). This was the standard for the whole stay. The room was great if you like Art Deco. We do, and we loved it. From the ...

Tea and cakes for 12 please
Advantages: Attentive service, delicious food. Disadvantages: A little pricey, the temptation to just keep on eating.....
It was my Aunts 60th birthday and as a treat for her and her close female friends and family, we were all invited to Afternoon Tea at Claridges.
Afternoon Tea is held daily from 3pm until 5:30pm and this is something you have to book in advance, either over the phone or using the online booking form. As I didn't do this I can't comment on how easy or difficult it was. We totaled 12 and were sat on a long narrow table in a spacious area of the room. ... ...I didn't pay too much attention - sorry! - but it was very ornate, high ceilings, a bit art deco and surprisingly not as 'posh' as I thought it would be. There was lots of space between the tables of which there were many and above the buzz of conversation you could hear someone playing the piano. ~ Tea, Sandwiches and Cakes ~
There were a few menus dotted on the table, of course I can't list every single tea (there were about 4 sides of A5 paper ...

Not as good as I had expected
Advantages: Good location Disadvantages: Bathroom not terribly clean, fairly small rooms, over-priced for what it is.
...be said that hotels in London can be expensive, and I guess considering my room was technically free it was good value! The rooms are an ok size, for central London but they were basic - for a "luxury" hotel I can't deny that I expected a little more. My room to be fair was just a standard king room but considering this is Hilton's flagship hotel in the United Kingdom I didn't think they were anything special. The Hilton website said that it was ... ...the next time I'm in London I think I'll give the Crowne Plaza a try - although from the website the rooms look a little more dated. The bathroom wasn't very clean, with a hair in the bath and rusty fittings. The hotel provides few toiletries. I do find it annoying that hotels only seem to give you 1 tiny bottle of soap and shampoo per room, a little more would have been great so that it didn't feel as though they had to be rationed! Had i have paid ...
