Putting on The Ritz
Advantages: Style, excellent service, great location Disadvantages: Too many tourists
The only problem with The Ritz is that being such a landmark it does attract a bizarre mixture of people.
The Rivoli Bar is perhaps a bit kitsch for some, decorated with much gold and glitz, but The Palm Court and adjoining lounge bar are sophistication in themselves and ideal places to take elderly relatives to tea or for drinks with clients/friends.
The restaurant offers the best of British in terms of a traditional menu and the room is spectacular. ... ...Rooms are excellent and of the high standard one would expect of a hotel of this calibre. Prices are high, but for that you do get the best.
The service is impeccable, the staff excellent and their attentive yet discrete manner is most impressive.
Conveniently situated on Piccadilly, the location is perfect for those looking for somewhere close to theatreland, the Royal Parks, shopping on Bond Street and Jermyn Street, etc. etc.
If you want to ...

Savoy Grandure with Some Like It Hot Feel
Advantages: Bend over backwards service Disadvantages: None
Having been to The Savoy a number of times for business meetings it was always a hotel I have wanted to stay at not only for the history but also for it's location. However the cost has always been a little hard to bear. You can imagine my pleasure when idly scanning through hotels.com and seeing the hotel's latest offer of £99 pppn including continental breakfast.
I booked and treated my wife for a 2 night surprise visit. Apparently the cheaper ... ...need a refurbishment? Probably is the answer but it isn't tatty. More like faded but still impressive.
From the moment we walked through the doors we were made very welcome indeed. The doormen were attentive and eager to help. The reception staff were efficient and courteous (showed us to our room, happens infrequently these days). This was the standard for the whole stay. The room was great if you like Art Deco. We do, and we loved it. From the ...

Failing standards
Advantages: Location and discretion Disadvantages: Service standards are falling
Walk in to the main lounge and one feels as though they have arrived in Saudi Arabia. The new bar is undeserving and its only the reputation of the Dorchester that keeps people coming to this place. The red lighting leaves you feeling nauseous, the cocktails are of a mediocre quality and the new uniforms leave the not-so-attractive waitresses looking even more undesirable. China Tang sadly has started to slip too. What used to be an enjoyable drink ... ...be understood by the uninterested waitresses. The restaurant itself, in a greedy battle to increase the covers, has added more tables, meaning you are faced with having to listen to the entire conversation of the tables either side of you throughout the evening. The bar still serves lovely dim sum but the courses served in the main restaurant don't seem to be timed well so you're often faced with dishes coming out in completely the wrong order. Rice ...

Some well deserved luxury!
Advantages: Feeling like a VIP Disadvantages: Prices can be tough on ordinary people like me!
The company I used to work for a few years ago used to have our yearly Christmas party at the Berkeley, so while I worked for them we had three Christmas parties at the same hotel. The reason for this is simply because their service was absolutely impeccable and every time was an amazing evening to remember…
It also happens that every year we used to have a Christmas raffle, where people used to win gifts, and during my last party I actually won ... ...which was offered by the hotel itself! So, because of my various experiences with them, I will try to make this review as detailed as possible.
While some people might find celebrating the Christmas party at the same venue slightly boring, we all actually thought of this as a beautiful event we could not wait to attend. While working for that company I organized 3 of the parties and have to confess that their management is absolutely delightful ...

Home Base for Traveling with a Grandchild
Advantages: Comfortable, clean, pleasant ambience, elbow room Disadvantages: Lacks many traditional hotel facilities and services, such as room service and baggage storage
...trip planner, I selected the New Linden, a small hotel straddling Bayswater and Notting Hill, not far north of Kensington Gardens. The location was handy for buses and the tube, easily facilitating our forays around and about London.
In the end, that choice came down to space and price. I wanted a space that would provide both our grandson and us with an opportunity for privacy, and I wanted to do so without paying the usual London prices for a ... ...of our quad.
The New Linden is listed on various hotel sites at 2, 3, or 4 stars. Take your pick. I venture to approximate 3 stars based on its lack of urban hotel facilities. In the final analysis, however, it’s the experience that counts. Based on our experience, we would happily return to this charming hotel. It combines convenience with value for money, and we left with happy memories. Who could ask for more? ...
